1) Race date is Saturday, January 19. Race starts at 10:00 a.m. and will finish at approximately 4:30 p.m. ADMISSION IS FREE!
2) Pre-race activities for the public: Friday, January 18 spaghetti feed and meet the mushers at the White Oak Great Hall from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (All dog teams report to White Oak race vet on day before race for "vet checks," where the dogs and their medical records are examined.)
3) How many race teams? Maximum number of teams is 25.
4) How many dogs/team? Most teams will have 6 dogs. A few teams may have 4 or 5 dogs.
5) Length of race? There will be two races. Both will start at the White Oak Learning Centre & Fur Post in Deer River, MN, and will be run on local snowmobile trails.
(a) One race will proceed 18 miles to the northwest, roughly parallel to Hwy 46, with the Finish Line being located at Gosh Dam Place.
(b) The other race will be run 19 miles east to the Itasca County Fairgrounds, and then 19 miles back to the Fur Post, for a total distance of approx 40 miles.
6) At the Itasca County Fairgrounds, mushers and dog-teams will take a 2-hour layover. Members of the community are invited to come and visit with mushers and meet the sled dogs at the Fairgrounds.
7) Finish Line for the longer race will be back at the White Oak Fur Post in Deer River.
8) Awards ceremony for both races will be held at the White Oak Fur Post at 5:00 p.m. (or later if the last musher arrives later...but all teams are expected to be finished before that time)
9) We are always looking for more volunteers to help w/race activities, including pre-race posting of flyers, staffing of road crossings during the race, serving food, and other tasks. 10) Spectators should dress in layers, according to the prevailing weather conditions on race day. Warm boots and hand-warmers are recommended. Bring your camera!
11) Food and beverages will be served at the White Oak location, as well as Gosh Dam Place and the Itasca County Fairgrounds.
12) Where and when are the best race-viewing locations/times? (all times are approximate)
(a) White Oak Learning Centre & Fur Post from 8:00-10:30 a.m. and 3:30-5:00 p.m.
(b) Along Hwy 2 between Deer River and Cohasset from 10:00-11:00
(c) Gosh Dam Place from 11:00-2:00
(d) Itasca County Fairgrounds from 11:00-3:00

15) Of course all of this depends on the weather. We wish we had a lot more snow. Interested parties should stay tuned to the above web site for race-related announcements in case of cancellation.
