Nonrecursive Kryo: New attempt

Hi all,

Title says it all, here's my plan:

* Decisionmaking here. Avoid writing code just to get it rejected
because some important Kryo goal wasn't seen in time.
* Discuss the analysis that I have - it's entirely possible I overlooked
or misinterpreted something.
* Discuss what approaches are most promising. E.g. what's the best stack
organisation in terms of performance and maintainability? What are the
existing priorities, and is it even worth doing?
* Proof of concept. Possibly iterate back.
* Implement, test, release. The easy part :-)

There's some attention required by the Kryo leads, so:
- Are the leads interested in yet another attempt?
- Community feedback is important for good decisionmaking.
