The Case Closed anime series, known as Meitantei Conan (名探偵コナン, lit. Great Detective Conan, officially translated as Detective Conan) in its original release in Japan, is based on the manga series of the same name by Gosho Aoyama. It was localized in English as Case Closed by Funimation due to unspecified legal problems.[1] The anime is produced by TMS Entertainment and Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation with the directors being Kenji Kodama, Yasuichiro Yamamoto, Masato Satō, Kōjin Ochi, and Nobuharu Kamanaka.[2] The series follows the teenage detective Jimmy Kudo, who transforms into a child after being poisoned with APTX 4869 by the Black Organization. Now named Conan Edogawa and living with the Moores, Conan solves murders during his daily life as he awaits the day to defeat the Black Organization.

These "seasons" are based on the Japanese DVDs released by Shogakukan starting on October 25, 2000. (see Home media release section) In Japan, Case Closed runs continuously on TV with very few weeks off.

My wife has fallen in love with Detective Conan. We finished the 5th season. Is there a company we can buy the rest of the seasons from? Streaming services are good. But we prefer the DVDs or blue rays

Case Closed, also known as Detective Conan (Japanese: 名探偵コナン, Hepburn: Meitantei Konan, lit. "Great Detective Conan"), is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday since January 1994, with its chapters collected in 104 tankōbon volumes as of October 2023. Due to legal problems with the name Detective Conan, the English language releases from Funimation and Viz Media were renamed to Case Closed. The story follows the high school detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body was transformed into that of an elementary school-age child while investigating a mysterious organization. Generally, he solves a multitude of cases by impersonating his childhood best friend's father and various other characters.

Jimmy Kudo (Japanese name: Shinichi Kudo) is a high school detective who sometimes works with the police to solve cases.[2] During an investigation, he is ambushed and incapacitated by a member of a crime syndicate known as the Black Organization. In an attempt to murder the young detective, they force-fed him a dangerous experimental drug. However, instead of killing him, it shrinks his body into the size of an elementary school child.[3] Adopting the pseudonym Conan Edogawa and keeping his true identity a secret, Kudo lives with his childhood friend Rachel Moore (Ran Mori) and her father Richard (Kogoro Mori), who is a private detective. Throughout the series, he tags along on Richard's cases. Nonetheless, after Kudo solves one, he will use Dr. Agasa's hidden tranquilizer to sedate Richard and then uses a voice changer to simulate his voice to reveal the solution.[4] He also enrolls in Teitan Elementary School where he makes friends with a group of classmates who form their own Junior Detective League (Detective Boys). While he continues to dig deeper into the Black Organization, he frequently interacts with other characters, including his neighbor, Dr. Agasa, Ran's friend Serena Sebastian (Sonoko Suzuki), a fellow teenage detective Harley Hartwell (Heiji Hattori), assorted police detectives from different regions, and a phantom thief called Kaito Kid.

In 2003, the first 104 episodes, as well as the first six movies were licensed by Funimation for distribution in North America, under the title Case Closed because of legal considerations.[2][66] The Case Closed anime has also been released in other languages such as French, German and Italian.[67][68][69] Case Closed debuted on Cartoon Network as part of their Adult Swim programming block on May 24, 2004;[70] no more than 50 episodes were licensed from Funimation due to low ratings.[71] Funimation made the series available with the launch of the Funimation Channel in November 2005; it was temporary available on Colours TV during its syndication with the Funimation Channel.[72][73] Funimation also released DVDs of their dubbed series beginning August 24, 2004.[74] Initially, the releases were done in single DVDs and future episodes were released in seasonal boxes; 130 episodes have been released in total.[75] The seasonal boxes were later re-released in redesigned boxes called Viridian edition.[76][77] Funimation began streaming Case Closed episodes in March 2013.[78] Finally, in 2018, Funimation lost the rights to the series.[79]

These "seasons" are based on the Japanese DVDs released by Shogakukan starting on February 24, 2006. (see Home media release section) In Japan, Case Closed runs continuously on TV with very few weeks off.

The sixteenth season of the Case Closed anime was directed by Masato Satō and produced by TMS Entertainment and Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation.[1] The series is based on Gosho Aoyama's Case Closed manga series. In Japan, the series is titled Detective Conan (名探偵コナン, Meitantei Conan) but was changed due to legal issues with the title Detective Conan.[2] The episodes' plot follows Conan Edogawa's daily adventures.

The season initially ran from February 26, 2007 through December 3, 2007 on Nippon Television Network System in Japan.[7][8] Episodes 466 to 490 were later collected into eight DVD compilations by Shogakukan. They were released between January 25, 2008 and August 22, 2008 in Japan.[9]

While investigating the Black Organization, a detective named Shinichi Kudo is captured and forced to take an experimental poison pill. The pill meant to kill him without trace. However, it backfires turning Kudo into a child instead of killing him. Kudo goes into hiding as Conan Edogawa to continue his investigation of the Black Organization.

Well, cutting the episode reviews of the Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime down to every 3-5 days have certainly helped out. Instead of having to add 25 or so posts to the archive, I only needed to add 12. However, considering that the end of what FUNimation considers the first season is approaching, with only six remaining, I will probably be ignoring the 3-5 day waiting period on the final four episodes. Fortunately, we have two more episodes before that happens. Today, I will be reviewing Case Closed episode 21 (Detective Conan episode 20).

Considering that the case was fairly faithful to its manga counterpart and Jimmy did not overlook the obvious, I would have to say that this episode was definitely worth watching. I recommend this to fans of Detective Conan (Case Closed), unless you hatred over the Junior Detective League will not allow even an episode with them, as well as fans of detective, mystery, and crime fiction. As for everyone else, I think that this serves as a good introduction to the series, as well as the detective, mystery, and crime fiction genres.

FUNimation lost the rights to Case Closed's first five seasons altogether in 2018. The show has since been picked up by Discotek and Bang Zoom! Entertainment which dubbed the 20th anniversary TV special "Episode "One": The Great Detective Turned Small," as a soft reboot for the dub, now with the original Japanese names and an all-new cast. It is also dubbing the 22nd movie, "Zero the Enforcer" which is slated for release September 29, 2020. What makes these releases especially interesting is that they've chosen to use both brand names. While the box sleeve has the FUNimation Case Closed logo, the actual Blu-ray box has new Detective Conan branding! The main menu for the disc even has both, though the font for Detective Conan is different, just to be extra confusing.
