Newsletter status?

Hi,

i'm slowly recovering from my last exam for this semester and i maybe missed a
message or two. So .. what's the status of the newsletter? Is it already in
plain text format and can be send out to krusader-news?

My plan was to create a new dedicated forum to hold the newsletters. A minimal
subset of bbcode tags could be used when posting the newsletters. The
aforesaid forum isn't necessarily public, it would be used to get the
newsletters online with existing facilities. Basically something similiar to
the News, which are also posted through phpBB.

Another, future proof and probably more flexible way would be to write the
newsletter in XML and do a XSLT to whatever format is needed, like simple
text for the newsletter. That's however a bigger effort and i had to learn
XSL from ground up (which i'm not aversed to btw), because it wouldn't make
too much sense to modify existing stylesheets here like i did for the HTML
docs.

I have to think about it .. and sorry for the delay!

Terry was making the final version of the newsletter in txt or html format,
( the *don't vote for patents chapter* needs to be removed or rewritten
since the voting day was 2 days ago btw. )
but since he dit not send any mail the last 2-3 days i guess he had some
rough times too.

The idea for XML is ok, Terry could write something in txt and i will convert it
into XML, but for the first newletter txt/html is ok.
I will covert it to XML in later on.
After we have a XML newletter template,
in theory (after some practice) everybody will be capable to write something
in XML.

Yes, had an unexpected situation come up Wednesday, and yesterday I was tied up half the day helping my Father with some message traffic he had to deal with (he is UK Queen's attorney for S.E. US, his Winbloz box would not pass muster with their messaging needs...  but he won't consider Linux, even though it's been recommended to him by the folks he needs secure communications with - the English Debian, naturally ;-) "I'm too old to learn a new program" - to him the computer is a "program" )

Anyhow, I was going to suggest what Dirk suggested, but was not sure I knew enough about it to make the case - so obviously I agree with this approach.  I think it will take a bit of work in the beginning, but will give the newsletter, and any other materials we create for distribution, a flexibility and [nearly] guaranteed consistent format that will serve us well in the long run.

To continue  - my *&$%#@!!%$#!&^% keyboard died!  What is IBM coming to?  That keyboard was only 13 years old!!!  Practically new!  Things just don't last like they used to....  Well that piece of junk is in the trash where it belongs!

Anyhow, adjusting the newsletter, and sending it to Shie for distribution.

Is it traditional in Germany to have a couple weeks off after exams to party, er, I mean, visit parents; after exams are over?

Thanks, they are over and i think i did quite well. :)

Jup it is, although it depends on the university. Others are having exams
during the semester break - we write them all in the last two weeks of a
semester.
