Hi guys,

A user has a problem that the Krusader viewer crashes
on .gz and .bz2 files on Gentoo.
http://krusader.sourceforge.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1265

This bug is also reported in the bugtracker for Debian.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=288661
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1108436&group_id=6488&atid=106488

Does anyone have an idea howto solve this ?

btw. my Debian computer does not crash, so it's difficult to help.
but Marcin Gryszkalis (jabber jid: m...@chrome.pl)
is verry kind to give all the info we need so that
we can understand what is causing this bug.

Works fine here. I can press F3 on archives of any kind I found and on files
within these. All I get is more and more tabs :-)

Same here. No more crashes when ark is unmerged. The archive is opened in
binary mode instead.

The new F3 viewer does not show the contents of .cvsignore files!

Says that the viewers crashes if Ark is not installed, is this info correct ?
Does Krusader depends on the services of Ark ?

Frank,

if you want the generic viewer to handle a specific mimetype, you need to have the part for this type.
since Ark provide the part for "viewing" compressed files, if you don't have it installed they will be viewed with the default text editor.

same for mp3, video and even pdf files - if you have the part for it - you can view it in Krusader :)

the KDE guys did an amazing job indeed...

So i think we could say ark is needed by krusader,
since many users wants to see compressed file with
the viewer.
The only *strage thing* is that several users are saying that Krusader
crashes if you want to view a compressed file if ark is not installed
(not yet tested on my machine).

it happened because the we tried to get the part for the archive type and got NULL. in the new viewer we try to use a text part and if that fails - the default part...

and I don't think that Krusader *needs* ark - it will work fine without it and you can view archives in the panel without it.
but we can say that we recommend to have ark installed.
same goes to KHexEdit without which you won't be able to view files in hex mode (though I plan to fix that..)

So it was a bug that is fixed in cvs?
And if you use krusader 1.60.0 or lower, and if ark is not installed,
and if you try F3 on a compressed file = crash.

On Debian this calls "suggests", i will send a
bugreport (Wishlist items) to Debian for the Krusader package to
include ark and khexedit as "suggests".

AFAIK - the bug is fixed in the new viewer (was reported on this thread)
