For those interested in figuring out what the deal is with the (free) Vivado High Level Synthesis tool from Xilinx, here's a brief overview: http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/backgrounders/vivado-hlx.pdf

It's pretty high level but will give you an idea of what the tool is capable of and how you can use it to create some pretty cool stuff without drifting too far off into the weeds with VHDL/Verilog/RTL...
