Klesa, distress is of three types: papa, sin; papa-bijam, seeds of sin; and avidya, nescience.
"Papa has three categories: sinful, very sinful and extremely sinful. When suddha-bhakti dawns in the heart, one naturally avoids these three degrees of sinful activity. The papa-bijam within the heart prompt one to sin. However, such harmful propensities are expelled from the heart pulsating with the feelings of suddha-bhakti. The state when the jiva has forgotten his svarupa is known as avidya. The first stirrings of suddha-bhakti enlighten the jiva with the realization that the jiva is an eternal servant of Krsna and thus evaporate svarupa-bhrama, illusory misidentification of the self, which is the root of avidya. Therefore, all three forms of distress- papa, papa-bijam and avidya - are dissipated. Hence, klesaghni is a characteristic of bhakti.
