Dear All,
After having three visits to Mangaon Tribal School, we are planning to carry out a number of activities in coming weeks:
Tree plantation:
For the last two-three months, there has been tremendous cutting of
trees in IIT Campus. Although cutting of trees are being done for some
necessary tasks(widening of Main-road, construction of Buildings), it
is our responsibility to put efforts to plant trees in other parts of
the IIT Campus that are being deprived of this green habitation. Our
volunteers are looking forward for the necessary places in IIT Campus
for plantation, and hopefully, we will carry out this activity as soon
as possible. We will give you the details as soon as possible.
Bio-gas plant: Earlier there used to be one Bio-gas plant
opposite to H-4, where the cow-dung and other disposable litter was
supposed to be disposed and the gas obtained from it were used in many
ways. But, this didn’t work and the efforts went in ruin. So, we have
decided to take this initiative of re-establishing this bio-gas plant,
preferably near to Staff-C. Two of our volunteers have already talked
about this, and the process is still on.
Staff C Cleanliness: Earlier we did it in the month of
June(2008) and provided some disposal facility (3-4 dustbins), but it
didn’t work well. Two of our volunteers talked to the committee
responsible for the Staff canteen area and they gave a number of
reasons for the improper functioning of the disposal facilities over
there. The reasons were:
1. Insufficient number of dustbins
2. Inadequate man-power(workers) is allocated for the area in-front of Staff-C.
3. Cattle in Staff-C area are also a big hurdle. They had broken three dustbins that we deployed over there.
So, we have made a definite plan for the proper and permanent disposal
of the Staff Canteen area. And for this process, we again have to redo
our earlier activity of cleanliness. We are looking forward to carryout
this activity on the coming weekend.
In addition to this, many of our volunteers are putting a lot of efforts in setting up the website, Career counseling and Educational Videos.
The
main idea to convey here is that we have a number of things to do here
itself in IIT Bombay, and these activities are really important as
nobody cares about this. Yesterday, 11 of our volunteers(Amita, Deepti, Jagdish, Mitesh, Pulkit, Pushpraj, Rakhi, Sanket D, Shalini, Sujesha, Vijay)
went to Akansha Organization for some assessment task, and we all have
to go again at-least once to their centers for the assessment. But, we
had some discussion yesterday and we realized that we can put more
constructive efforts in IIT Campus itself, rather than putting efforts
to collaborate with an organization like Akansha. We have a number of
things and activities to do even in IIT itself. To conclude, make
yourself ready for the upcoming activities of Kritgynata, 'Giving Back
to Society'.
Thanks & Regards
Kritgynata Team
