Original Air Date: 7 May 2001
Sean rescues a local TV celebrity who is in trouble with his kayak. This brings the team a lot of media attention, and because Sean turns down the offer of a TV interview, he is offered a week at the Hilton, comp'd, because of what he did. Sean, though, does not like to take freebies either so he declines. But he has a different issue: he is about to go on his required annual leave for a week. Being the dedicated and at times obsessive guy that he is, Sean is having a difficult time letting go. Zack tries to interest Sean in joining a canoe race that he and Jason are doing for a competition. But Sean is not interested at this time. Brian has a solution: one of his friends, Jimmy Confair, a Hawaiian, is having difficulty with his boat-and also with getting over the death of his wife. He needs help repairing it and making it whole again. Brian suggests that Sean go to visit Jimmy and help. Sean reluctantly agrees. When he arrives at Jimmy's house, he is surprised to see that the boat that Melissa is in such rough shape. Jimmy doesn't seem to happy about the prospect of Sean helping him with the boat either. It was named after his wife. The two of them used to race in the boat. Remembering Brian's words, Sean decides to help anyway. Jimmy is hesitant at first, but Sean is persistant and soon he gets involved as well. The two men talk about their pasts and are able to address some of the hurt they have both been experiencing. Finally, the boat is done, and she is a beauty. They decide to race her. More importantly, both men decide it is time to put the past behind them and move on. On the day of the race, Sean shows up but there is no boat. Jimmy tells Sean that he was made an offer by an American that was too tempting to resist. It is time to move on, but at least the two men have found a new friendship between them. Jason is scouted by Terri, a pretty but workaholic wanna-be fashion photographer who thinks he has top model potential. She is so sure that she is willing to do an entire calendar layout featuring just Jason. In order to go on the photo shoot, Jason must tell Zack he won't be able to join him in the canoe race. Zack is disappointed, but has ideas of his own…Jason and Terri shoot all over the island in a variety of beautiful locations. Jason is a little off put by her aggression and bitchiness. She, in turn, at first considers him just another temperamental model. Finally, in exasperation, she agrees to sleep with him "now rather than later." Jason is completely taken aback, particularly when it becomes clear that this could be a quid pro quo situation. Jason is not cool with this idea at all, and tells her so. She in turn threatens to take away his potential modeling career and accuses him of being in cahoots with her boss, who is apparently a real ball buster who doesn't believe in Terri's talents. Things get better, though, when Jason gets what her real problem is: she is a workaholic who can't take a moment for herself He tries to solve this by fixing her a nice dinner where the two have a chance to really get to talk. By the next morning, they have definitely repaired their relationship. She still wants to get the "killer shot" of him. Against his advice, she climbs up on some rocks. A wave hits and she falls into the water, losing her camera and all the photos that have been taken. On the positive side, she still has the shot she took when she ini-tially spotted Jason, and she publishes it in the Honolulu Advertiser. She is impressed with his dedication to his craft and realizes he is better off not being part of the world of fashion models. Zack, "abandoned" by both Sean and Jason, gets an idea of his own: he will take advantage of the freebie vacation Sean was offered at the Hilton Hawaiian Village by pretending to be Sean! For the next few days, he's treated to free massages, lots of food, and all the fun he can imagine. Unfortunately, JD overhears Zack pretending he is Sean. He busts Zack, who flies into a panic. He begs for J.D. not to tell Sean. J.D. agrees-so long as Zack tells the hotel the truth. Zack is about to, but the two tourists he has been having fun with show up and tempt him once again. Zack gives in to his devilish side. It doesn't matter because Sean, after not entering the race, decides to take the Hilton up on its offer anyway. He is stunned to learn that he has racked up a huge tab and lost quite a bit of good will with the staff because of his wild weekend. He and Zack are going to have one serious conversation once he gets his hands on him! (Season Two)
