Only Krishna is the Lord
The next man stepped up to the microphone and asked, "You discussed earlier that the way of asking questions to the guru is tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya [Bg. 4.34]
offering him humble obeisance, etc. You said that even though you may be knowledgeable you should not show that attitude in front of guru. Please explain that."
"One who preaches that which is said by the Lord is a guru," Prabhupada responded. "The Lord has given definition of dharma as sarva dharman parityajya mam ekamsaranam vraja. So the duty of the guru is to direct the living entities to the contemplation of the
lotus feet of the Lord. That person is the guru; others are cheaters. One who considers himself as Krsna is simply a cheater. And one who says, 'Take shelter of the lotus feet of Krsna,' he is guru. That is, you should judge him by what he says. If the guru
says that you take shelter at the lotus feet of Krsna because Krsna says mam ekamsaranam vraja, then he is actually guru. And one who speculates, he is not guru. This is the point you should judge on, that's all."
The third question was a little speculative. "In the Ramayana it is said that Lord Rama fought a battle against Ravana, and in the Mahabharata the battle was fought in the presence of Lord Krsna, the Supreme Lord. So what about the third war? Who will fight
that?"
Prabhupada's quick reply made the audience laugh. "You are to fight the third war! Why you are thinking in advance for the third war? First of all you accept the instructions of the Lord given in the second one; then there may be some scope to think about the
third one. Lord is instructing, sarva dharman parityajya mam ekamsaranam vraja, so follow it. Then you will understand the third one. Yes!
"There is a third avatara, and that is Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He instructs, harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha. Actually, this is not directly spoken by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, but it is quoted from
Brhan naradiya Purana. This harer nama harer nama harer is meant especially for this age of Kali, so do it! This will create good for others, and you will be freed from the three modes of material nature and be happy."
The final questioner asked about one of the popular figures on the current spiritual circuit. "Sri Sai Baba is the Lord Himself-what is your opinion of this?"
Perhaps the questioner was hoping for a controversial reaction, but Srila Prabhupada rarely criticizes other so-called gurus in public. Nevertheless, by his reply the audience understood what he really thinks, and they were delighted. "We are rascals, so we
do not know all these things," he said, taking the humble stance. "We know only that Krsna is the Lord. We are not very scholarly." The audience laughed in appreciation at his punch line: "We only know krsnas tu bhagavan svayam [SB 1.3.28] -- only Krsna is
the Lord and the rest are all cheaters."
In accordance with Srila Prabhupada's standards, Caitya-guru has arranged for the distribution of prasadam when Prabhupada leaves the pandala. Puri, halava, and fruit, along with caranamrta, is distributed from the stage. Srila Prabhupada told him to offer
it to Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai in full view of the public just to show them how we offer our food before eating.
