Dear Friends,
Most of us must have experienced the power of prayers. It immediately connects us to divine and uplifts our consciousness. That’s why all the authentic religions of the world give importance to prayers, especially through calling out Lord’s holy names.
Lord’s holy names are divine and one can easily experience the same just by calling out these holy names. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu recommended chanting of Hare Krishna Maha mantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Mantra is one which delivers our mind. While chanting, we should try to free our mind from everything else except pronouncing the holy names correctly and listening to them attentively. Then we can fully experience the power of mantra. Proper chanting of mantra brings us to ‘relaxed alert’ state – this state is greatly beneficial not only spiritually but materially too.
Kindly do wholheartedly chant the holy names during world holy name week from 10th to 20th Sep 2011.
Thanks and Regards,
Ram Mohan

~World Holy Name Week 2011~
ISKCON's World Holy Names Week Sept 10 - 20 2011 -- 5 Global Initiatives to Increase Auspiciousness on the Planet The five initiatives for this year's World Holy Names Week are: 1. Japathon 2. Harinam 3. Sankirtan-Yajna 4. Global Prayer 5. Sunday Kirtan There are currently 67 temples across India and hundreds more around the world participating in this year's World Holy Names Week. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu predicted that His Names would be chanted in "every town and village," and Srila Prabhupada fulfilled Mahaprabhu's prediction by starting ISKCON and carrying the Holy Names around the world (as the Ambassador of the Holy Names). World Holy Names Week is organized globally but implemented locally, so readers are encouraged to contact their local temples or write to kir...@krishna.com. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. The World Holy Names Committee proposes the following initiatives: 1. Japathon 2. Harinam Sankirtan 3. 12-hour Kirtans 4. Global Prayer 5. Reciting the Glories of the Holy Names 1. The Japathon starts on the auspicious Disappearance Day of NamacharyaSrila Haridas Thakura (see Calendar) and continues for 10 days until the anniversary of the arrival of Srila Prabhupada, The Ambassador of The Holy Names, to the West. The Japathon is a chance for congregation members to join full-time devotees for japa. Haridas Thakura chanted more than 300,000 names of Krishna daily and was awarded the title Namacharya by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Last year during the Japathon, ISKCON Pune’s congregation chanted 70 million Holy Names daily. None of us can be Haridas Thakur, but, collectively, we can chant millions and billions of Holy Names. 2. Last year, we encouraged temples to participate in a 50-man Harinam to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s Sannyasa. Some temples organized Harinams on a daily basis, one temple organized a 500-man party, and some temples joined together for Harinam. This is a coordinated effort to push back maya and deliver the Holy Names into the hearts of every city. We suggest a 51-man Harinam for each Friday of the Japathon (see Calendar). 3. 12-hour Kirtans. We suggest inviting your congregation to the temple for a day of kirtan, from 10 AM to 10PM (local time). We have scheduled these “sankirtan yajnas” on each Saturday of the World Holy Names Week (a week which has now expanded to include two Ekadasis). We will post the schedules online as they become available. 4. Global Prayer – all the initiatives are meant to unite ISKCON and even non-ISKCON devotees in prayer. The more devotees that participate, the better. Instead of one temple doing a 12-hour sankirtan-yajna, we want to encourage *all* the temples to do a yajna (or going on Harinam) at the same time. With the different time zones, however, this becomes complex. This “Global Prayer”, however, will take place on the Disappearance Day of Srila Haridas Thakur at noon GMT and go for 10 minutes. We ask all devotees everywhere to stop what they are doing (even if they are sleeping) about 5 minutes before 12:00 PM GMT: wash your hands and mouth, then chant for 10 minutes. If you find this enlivening, feel free to continue throughout the remainder of World Holy Names Week. 5. Reciting the Glories of the Holy Names – we ask that devotees who are giving class during World Holy Names Week to speak about the glories of the Holy Names. Examples are these quotes (stolen from Indradyumna Swami’s Facebook wall): "The devotee should make it a regular practice to spend a little time alone in a quiet place and concentrate deeply on the holy name. He should utter and hear the name distinctly. It is impossible for the jiva to singlehandedly avoid and overcome the illusion of distraction. By the mercy... of the Lord, however, this is accomplished with ease." [Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura ] "Of all the names of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna is the most important, as the Lord Himself has confirmed: 'My dear Arjuna, 'Krishna' is the most important of all My names.'" [Srila Baladeva Vidyabhusana, Sri Vishnu-sahasra-nama-stotra, A Thousand Names of Lord Vishnu, text 20 ] "In the teachings of Sriman Mahaprabhu, there are two principle instructions: developing a taste for chanting the holy names and displaying compassion for the fallen souls." [Srila Bhaktivinod: Sri Caitanya...Siksamrita, 1.7 ] "My only hope lies in the limitless nectar of Your Holy Name." [Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur, Harinama Cintamani, Chapter One] "O sadhu, if you cannot suddenly renounce this dreamlike world, then day and night meditate on Vrindavan. Worship Vrindavan's king and queen and always chant Their holy names." "If the opulence or knowledge of many millions of universes were clustered together, they would hardly equal a small fragment of the glory of Krsna's holy name. Krsna's holy name is my life. It is the goal of my life. It is the means I will employ to attain the goal of my life." [Srila Rupa Goswami, Padyavali, Text 23] "Even if one distributes ten million cows in charity during an eclipse of the sun, lives at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna for millions of years, or gives a mountain of gold in sacrifice to the brahmanas, he does not earn even one hundredth part of the merit derived from chanting Hare Krishna." [Srila Sanatana Gosvami, Laghu-Bhagavatamrta] Krishna is the original name of the Lord and all other names are simply part and parcel of that original name Krishna. The original name Krishna is more powerful than the other names and the result of chanting the name of Krishnais greater than that of chanting the other names of the Lord." [Jiva Goswami, Sri Krishna Sandarbha]
The sadhu helps the fallen jiva to regain his natural state of freedom from sin, by the constant service of bringing about the descent of transcendental sound in the form of words uttered by his lips and the mahaprasada in the shape of food that is offered by him to the Lord. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta "O people, please do not fear this blazing fire of sin! The monsoon clouds of Lord Govinda's holy name will extinguish it with a flood of rain." [Garuda Purana, cited by Srila Sanatana Goswami in Hari-Bhakti-Vilasa, 11th vilasa ] ~CHANT HARE KRISHNA AND BE HAPPY~
