Dear all,

As we all know, the Mess Registration on Monday (2 September) did not succeed. We take up the moral responsibility of the mishap and apologise to the students for the same.

We are trying to make arrangements for conducting mess registration through last year's (students) portal which had been proved to be effective in handling the traffic. The reason why we tried to shift to the new system was for a robust database and interconnected services (biometric entry, mess ledger system etc.) so that a lot of the processes are rendered easier for the students (a system similar to workflow which substituted the manual course registration and enrollment).

Since, the prepared database given at the CCW website is nearly complete, we will be having the new registration through the “Students” portal, enabled for the students residing in the hostels. Please find the following links to the website for registration:

  1. For Male Students: http://students2.iitm.ac.in/boys

  2. For female students residing in Sarayu and Sharavati: http://students2.iitm.ac.in/girl

  3. For female students reisiding at Sarayu Extension: http://students2.iitm.ac.in/extn

A detailed information about the new procedure along with the timings will be sent to you shortly.

We understand that there was a lack of communication between the secretaries and the students. Most of the students are not aware of what transpired in the last two sessions of mess registrations. We hope the attached presentation would throw some light on the processes that were involved in setting up the system and how it went wrong.

We want to make the processes clear through this mail. Please don't take this as an excuse. We are not blaming someone in the system for your suffering. We do understand that your concerns are important in forming our decisions and since we have failed to take note of some, we earnestly ask you to pardon us for our mistakes.

With regard to the changes in menu, please refer to the second presentation (Emergency SAC Meeting Presentation - Mess Issues) attached herewith that explains the survey results (the form was circulated to the students to know their preferences). We want to let you know that we are discussing with the caterers to bring a combination of items that can be included in the menu for a reasonable rate (at about Rs.2/-) so that the students who want more variety can have them on a regular basis. We will convey this to you once we take some decisions.

Sincerely,

Kranthi Kumar                   Deepak Johnson

Secretary (Hostel Affairs)  Students’ General Secretary
