This is what I sent to the residents!

Hi all

Final tally:
Res zone: Cash: Rs 44760
                Cheques: Rs 37000 (in favour of Goonj)

                (both deposited in HDFC bank-Mandaveli in Goonj's account)

Students: Rs 1,06,401 (distributed as requested by students)
               Rs 50K given to Ramakrishna Mutt for their relief work
               Rs 56401 transferred to Goonj

               (RKM receipt and deposit for Goonj acct attached)

 

Yesterday, spoke to Goonj - Delhi office and they were suggesting that we pay Delhi supply people for materials which will be delieverd to Goonj-Delhi (to avoid transport costs from Chennai to Delhi). But then this update came from them on FB.

"Important for people who are purchasing #relief material for #Rahatfloods for #Uttrakhand- Please take extra care as a lot of greedy companies and suppliers are using this opportunity to supply expired, bad quality material on highly inflated prices. We have got some extremely low quality of blankets to expired food items as the people paid them their hard earned money on faith by draft or online and asked them to supply us directly.The possible ways of frauds in material are- quality, size, date of expiry, thickness,quantity and rates. Also do not send cooked food and water pouches ( bottles are fine). Do spread the message."

So instead of getting into buying materials, since Goonj is reliable, we have transferred the collected cash to them directly.

 

Have e-mailed Goonj the deposit acknowledgements from the bank and name list for receipts. They said it would take about a week. Those who have given cheques, they said it will get realized in 2 days.
