Summary of this volume: The 5th International Conference on Frontiers in Industrial and Applied Mathematics (FIAM-2022) was held December 22 to 23, 2022 on the campus of Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh, India. FIAM is a conference series that began in 2018 by a group of faculty members working in different reputed institutes. These proceedings contains research papers on nonlinear PDEs from mathematical physics, image processing, operation research, computational mathematics, statistics, and applied mathematical analysis.
These proceedings will be of interest to: PhDs, postdoctorates, faculty members, and industry experts working in the fields of nonlinear PDEs including mathematical physics, operator theory, image processing, operation research, statistics, computational mathematics, and queuing theory.
Dev is a passionate student with a keen interest in math and problem solving. Fueled by a desire to share his interests, he publishes articles for Enigmatica, his magazine on applied mathematics. Honing skills in public speaking, he participates in debate and Model United Nations in his school team. He enjoys working and sharing his interests with like-minded peers.
Maths helps you acquire knowledge and important understanding to develop a positive attitude to think, analyse and see things logically whereas applied mathematics helps you develop an understanding of basic mathematical tools and statistical tools and their application in the field of commerce especially. Belmont alumna Tina Sharma took a gap year following her high school graduation traveling across the United States organizing grassroots movements in the political sector. A Nashville native, she found herself giving a presentation to Leadership Nashville during her travels, and in the crowd sat former Belmont Provost Dr. Thomas Burns.
After crafting an impressive resume for herself during her time at Belmont, Sharma moved to Mountain View, California just one week after graduating a year early and magna cum laude with a degree in applied mathematics and economics.
Sue Ann Campbell is President Elect of the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society. CAIMS represents applied and industrial mathematics in Canada. The society has become a significant presence in industrial, scientific, and technological circles within and outside of Canada.
Sugandha Sharma, masters student graduate of the University of Waterloo's CTN, discusses her research and time in the laboratory of CTN Founding Director Chris Eliasmith as well as her current PhD research at MIT on the Generally Intelligent Podcast. Give it a listen.
Sue Ann Campbell (Applied Math/CTN core member) recently presented "Modulation of Synchronization by a Slowly Varying Current" in July 2022 at the International Conference on Mathematical Neuroscience; Watch it on YouTube
The Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience will be hosting its second Research Day. This will be a chance to start the new academic year by getting re-acquainted with each other and the diversity of research conducted by CTN core and affiliate faculty. The format will be to have a number of CTN faculty share short overviews of their lab's and projects (16:30-17:30) and then, following a short coffee break (17:30-18:00), hear from a dozen current graduate students and post-docs giving short three minute talks on an aspect of their current research (18:00-19:00).
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
