Hi Nachum
Wow, that is actually a great blast from the past and indeed, it was certainly a seminal event in how we thought about and marketed the IT space in Krakow at the time. All due credit have to go to you, Jonathan Orstein and our professor friend from AGH who did the heavy lifting.
To summarize, our small but might team of 4 people thought that given the natural connections between Krakow and Israel from a cultural perspective, expanding that cooperation to the high tech space seemed a natural extension, thus Ki-Tech (Krakow- Israel Technology Connection as a concept was born). We quickly realized though that in order to gain any momentum for the idea, we needed to know what Krakow had to offer so we had to collect our “start-up inventory”. Thus began our collection of start-up companies in Krakow which later became both the foundation of the Krakow IT pbworks website as well as seed for the TedX talk a few years later. Definitely some highpoints included talking to Janusz Makuch (founder of the Krakow Jewish Festival) and the Israeli Commercial Attache in Warsaw. We were also trying to build a bridge to Ben-Gurion university in Israel. Ultimately, we struggled to turn it into a full fledged effort but it certainly served as a great foundation for future initiatives as well as created some new connections which would bear fruit in later years and it was a just joy to work with Nachum and Jonathan on something so groundbreaking at the time, particularly since they took a big leap of trust to work with this crazy American who just landed in Poland.

I think Ramon can tell a great story of how we started Ki-Tech, one of the first startup initiative back in 2008/2009.

hi Pawel,
you were asking about the history of the Startup Community in Krakow
for your presentation next week.
Paul Klipp - the first Curator of TEDxKrakow, set up IT Small Business Alliance and held some Open Coffee Krakow type meetings.
Ela Madej set up Hive53
Ramon Tancinco set up http://krakowit.pbworks.com
Pawel Płaszczak set up IT w Krakowie
I'm not sure who started Krakspot
If anyone cc-ed has other "early Krakow Startup community" stories to tell please write to Pawel who runs the OMGKRK foundation
www.omgkrk.com which does a proper job of representing us to the outside world
