Fishis such an amazing finger food for your little one. It is soft and easy for them to manage, super nutritious and is really, really easy to prepare too. Plus, fish cooks super quickly so you know those days your baby is SCREAMING for food. Well this is the recipe for you! (and your baby of course!)

Cooking fish can be a worry for parents especially when you are making a finger food recipe for a smaller baby. Bones are obviously the biggest issue. I buy my fish over the counter and always ask the fish monger to debone it for me. If you tell them you are worried about it I find they are always super cautious. You can also get them to skin the fish too which is great and it saves time at home.


When I get home and prepare the fish I will always feel around for any loose bones too and very seldom will I find any. Hake and Haddock are 2 great fish to use because the bones are hard and long so they are really easy to find.


For this recipe I cut the fish into bite sized chunks so they cook really quickly! Less than 10 minutes quickly! I also popped the fish into the oven to get it ever crispier but that is totally optional.


The sauce is just super easy to make. It is simply a mix of garlic, ginger, yogurt and plenty of flavoursome spices like cumin, coriander and turmeric with a little sprinkle of pepper. I pop everything into a little freezer bag to let it marinate for an hour or so, but that is also optional if you are in a hurry. At this point you can also freeze the fish to use at a later date so brilliant for building up that stash of ready to cook meals in the freezer.


I love finger food recipe for babies that also double up as a perfect family dinner too! Who really wants to be cooking 2/3 dinners? No-one!!! Make life easy and just make one meal that is baby-friendly but perfect for the ENTIRE family too.

3. Scoop out a small palm full and form into a small patty. I like to keep the fish cakes small because kids manage and prefer small better. I line them up all on a plate. You can do this step earlier in the day and then refrigerate until dinner.


I personally love tilapia but sea bass, cod and halibut are also great to use. Once baby starts to build up their taste for fish, you can start to introduce them to salmon, muhi-muhi or tuna. All fish can be made into a baby food puree but broiling, poaching or baking and then blending with a little water or stock. Add to your favorite vegetable puree for a well balance meal.


I usually double the recipe so that we have some patties left-over to snack on or have for lunch the next day. I serve them with steamed veggies on the side and my husband and I like to dip them in tartar sauce. I know the recipe is a little more time consuming than just popping some fish sticks in the oven, but the work is well worth it and your kids will thank you. ?


There are differing opinions on whether or not babies should eat fish before 1 yr. old. I started making these fish cakes for Arik when he was 9 months old, but I would recommend you talk to your pediatrician and maybe do some research of your own to see what you are comfortable with.


This was a pretty good recipe. It was a little too wet to make patties. I doubled the recipe and used 3 jumbo eggs. I think the recipe should say one large egg. I had to add whole wheat bread crumbs to be able to make patties that would keep their form while putting in the egg and bread crumbs. I also added some Old Bay Seasoning to give it a little more flavor. Other than that, I think they were really good. Thanks for sharing the recipe.


Love this recipe! So easy and delicious. I tweaked it a tad and added chives instead of green onion and used sweet potato & salmon. Served with Greek yoghurt, my little man loves it & so do we, delicious!


Which kind of olive? Being Italian, I love the Italian varieties for my baby recipes: Taggiasche olives (black, fruity and sweet) Castelverano (green, meaty, mild flavor) Cerignola (giant green, mild flavor). I also like some local Californian Mission (black, bright in flavor).


One personal advice when cooking for babies or kids is not to give them canned olives (the black ones already depicted). They are basically picked green form the tree, depicted, canned and chemically pumped with oxygen to turn black once opened.


Cover a baking sheet with some parchment paper. Place the potato slices one next to the other, forming a rectangle, slightly overlapping. Place the fish fillet on top. Add the olives, thyme and bay leaves. Place the pear cubes around the potatoes, like a frame. Drizzle with some Extra Virgin Olive Oil.


Remove the thyme and bay leaves before serving. If you are looking for a creamy texture, place a baby portion in a food processor or tall container. Add some thinning liquid like baby formula, breastmilk or hot water (for more info about how to thin your baby food, check this post too) and blend up until smooth.

As I have said before, I am a big proponent of introducing children to fish very young (read: during pregnancy and while nursing). Pablo is 17 mos! Kids are growing up so fast too. I love this soup so much. I need to make it one day. When I was in Japan I eat way more fish than I do now. It's light and much healthier option than meat. My mom would alternate meat and fish everyday but meat appears way more in my kitchen. What a great dish. I've become so hungry after seeing your posts. ?
