LOCHAC’S BIGGEST GARAGE SALE
- Want to do something to help the SCA?
- Got stuff stashed away just in case it comes in useful?
- In need of some new armour/fabric/feasting gear/clothing?
Many of you will know about the settlement the SCA has made out of
court in order to stop incurring ongoing legal fees. While most of
this should be covered by insurance, one of our insurance companies is
currently stalling on paying out. This means the SCA Inc will need to
raise a lot of money in the next month, and plans to do so by
proportionately taxing the Kingdoms and major events (like Pennsic)
located in the USA within the next few weeks. Read more about the

While there is no obligation for Lochac to participate in this payout,
we have always contributed to the wider SCA, and many of us have
benefitted from our links with other Kingdoms or travels to events
like Pennsic overseas. Now we can jointly do something to help:

1. Contribute something of good quality for sale. That piece of fabric
you stashed away. Or your spare helm. Or those books that need a new
home. You can even offer services – coming up with a name & device for
someone who needs help, or making some clothing before festival for
someone who can’t sew, or one-on-one training lessons... the sky is
the limit! Just put a description up of what it is – more information
is always better – and include a price that you want for the item that
can be donated toward the settlement.
2. Ask for something that you want. Put up a description of something
you need, and list a fair price you want to pay for it. State that you
want to put the amount paid toward the settlement – it might just
inspire someone to go through their shelves/garage/stash and put it
toward a good cause. And you get something you need!
3. Buy something! It’s not just about giving stuff to a good home for
a worthy cause, it’s about fundraising at short notice. Look on the
website every day or so, and see if there is something you would buy
for yourself, a friend, your group, your group chandlery
(quartermaster) or even that newcomer who is starting to play with the
College. Encourage others to use the site. Send recommendations of
items to people you think might find it useful.
4. Make a donation. If this is all too hard but you want to
contribute, you can always pledge a donation. Just put up on the
garage sale site how much you/your household/your group of friends
would like to contribute.
For the purpose of the garage sale, we will be using William
Castille’s website SCA Classifieds. Go in, have a look in the
Fundraising for Settlement section:

details are yet to be released but will be advertised as soon as they
are made available in both New Zealand and Australia.
