Hello fellow shroomers,

Finally some rain and mushrooms popping up everywhere. We are
planning our fungus fair this next weekend September
9th and 10th (11th if we have interest). We need to hold a pre fair
meeting to discus planned activities. If anyone wants to help put an
activity together, please give me a call.
252 6630 or send me an email fu...@eaglesroost.us We are going to
base in Soldotna at the River City Book store at the Y.
Possible activities: forays, paper making, book and t shirt sales.
I have a new method for home culture that requires no boiling of the
straw. This method will make it easy for anyone to keep a grow bag
going at home.
Hope to see everyone real soon,
Ken Gill

This sounds great and I would really look forward to a foray with an experienced forager. Is there also a girdwood fungus fair this year?

The fungus fair will base out of River City book store. They have a covered back patio off the restaurant. This is also close to Soldotna Creek park

River City Books has a back patio but last I saw it was not covered. You
might verify before counting on a sheltered space there.

Hello Ken,

I have some fungi for the fair including several Dyer's polypore for paper making or to display which I found while visiting my son in Northern California, three cut birch logs with polypores from Soldotna, several Birch conks and a small box with similar looking polypore caps but when turned over one has pores while the other is a gilled polypore, possibly Lenzites betulina. They both were growning on the same fallen Birch log at my dughter's home in Soldotna.

I will be out of town September 8 through 12 and would like to get these fungi to someone for the show.  I live in Kenai but plan to go to Soldotna Tuesday or Wednesday this week.  Have you any suggestions as to where I might be able to deliver these fungi?

Hello fellow shroomers,
We had a very productive meeting tonight. Thanks to all who
attended. We have a confirmed location:
Alaska Pioneer Photos located behind Sal's in Soldotna. Take Lovers
Lane beside Sal's and go to the parking lot behind Sal's.
You will see a big parking lot behind the building. We will be set up
at the far end of the building.
Hours will be 10 AM to 5PM on Friday and 10AM until 6PM? on Saturday.
We will have mushroom displays. Bring your mushrooms from home for
identification. Forays will be leaving at 10AM, 2PM, and 4PM both
days. We will need foray leaders for all forays both days. You do
not need to be able to identify the mushrooms, just gather and bring
them back for identification.
Don't be shy!!
Planned activities will include a cultivation workshop beginning at
1PM both days. This should only take an hour each day. Cost will be
$15.
We will have a paper making workshop on Saturday at 2PM. Saturday at
5PM, we will have a cooking demonstration where we will cook edible
mushrooms for everyone to taste and have a potluck from 5PM until ?
We hope to see everyone on Friday and Saturday. We need volunteers
for both days. I have heard from several people offering to
volunteer. Book, t shirt and membership sales will be needed for both
days. Please let us know what you would like to sign up for.
See everyone on Friday,
Ken Gill
