I bought myself an Asus EEE 1005 netbook in March. It has a 1.6GHz Atom
processor, 1GB of RAM, and 250GB HDD. When I got the computer I
immediately loaded it with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04, and was greatly
enjoying it's web-browsing capabilities. I was even watching Youtube
videos in HD, which I also enjoyed. Since upgrading to UNR10.04 in May I
have been unable to play HD on my netbook. It is slow and lags several
seconds. A 720p or 1080p video plays more like a slideshow, thought the
audio continues uninterrupted. I don't know what the problem is. I was
unable to use Youtube for 4 months from mid-April until mid-August
because I was in China, where Youtube is blocked, so maybe something
changed in the Youtube interface. This is unlikely, because when I try
to watch HD videos offline that I've downloaded the problem is the same.
Is it a problem with the video driver? I would appreciate some feedback.
I've researched the problem on my own and the most common answer is that
my computer does not have the technical specifications for HD. This
makes no sense, because I was able to do it before.
