Want to use cell phone on LAN to view heading, speed, distance to go etc

Anyone using kplex to put NMEA on the ship LAN and then see heading speed etc on a cell phone app? I see one android app called NMEA tools that might do this but has anyone had success? Would want something to be able to work just on the LAN without cell or internet service. Android and/or iPhone.
