I finally picked up a bluetooth OBD2 adapter. Seems like Torque is the gold standard for Android, but it is not available on iOS (which has been noted by scammers who have created multiple apps with torque in the name). It looks like OBD Fusion is the one to get, but wanted to see what anyone else's experience with that or other apps are. Beyond the usual checking for diagnostic codes, I'd like to be able to see a few basic values in real time, mainly coolant temp, but I could see wanting to do more, maybe converting an old ipad or ipod into a gauge cluster. This is mainly for use with a LS-based engine swap, but I'd probably use it on other cars in the fleet, too.

I just found Garage Pro for Android yesterday. They appear to have an iPhone version. I liked it enough to pay $30 for it since it's capable of reading and resting things like airbag and abs codes whereas Torque cannot.

As far as I can tell, you can either get an app that's good at reading codes or one that's good at making dashboards. But not both. What about mounting an older Fire tablet running Torque or something?

Edit: I also have the foxwell NT630 which I tend to use more than the dongle. The dedicated scanner is more convenient. since the dongle I have requires me to use WiFi to connect to it with the iPhone, where android could use BT.

Your Bluetooth device is not compatible with iPhone because it isn't Bluetooth LE. Try using a low cost wifi version of the device. This will be compatible with all apps, such as OBD Terminal or EOBD Facile.

OK. I give up. You found 2 apps that work. You don't tell us which one you're trying to use, if either, or what happens when you try. Tell ya what... when you want to provide some real information that we can work with to actually answer a question, come back and let us know.

I wanted to reply, as I'm sure anyone with a passion for their car and their iPhone. Ok..I don't day trade, do my banking or even Tweet or use Facebook - sue me. ..and I know the net, not new to any of this.. I just don't engage it..and that's what people think of about iPhone owners now.. -I just have grown up with the Mac platform and love the iPhone.. - Usually it Apple that's all over stuff.. How could Apple miss the "Dongle!" - Oh I've already started looking for that copyright--the "iDongle" ...hmm, the iDong! Call me Apple.. -enough of that.. this technology is taking this a long time to get either worked out or to the market.. and car companies not wanting to cooperate.. throw in the "ELM" that only works with Android..and highlight the problem with an exlemation point by saying * solved..but an Android.. as if. The answer is give it time.. They'll do it thru an either seen second party like Quicklink..or hopefully they'll get together and get out of the proprietary.. And that seems where the breakdown happens.. For IPhones I got connected on my 2015 FR-S and that model could not be read by this secondary "proprietary" software for iPhone.. The phone never connected to Dash Command when I selected it thru Quicklink. SO..some will work with iPhone and android- about $100.. they do connect to iPhone thru thr OBD port - I think they use a wifi..on some.. however, the one I had briefly, it was working with Quicklink using Bluetooth.. BUT, a lot of vehicles have not become involved or may not want their info out ..or it's the type of code that can make car-hypochondriacs.. idk why Apple isn't on this - maybe because Steve Jobs died.. God rest his soul..

Adriano, you need to tell us specifically what apps you are trying to use. You also need to state exactly what happens when you try to use these apps with your device, assuming you've confirmed with the developers of the apps that they do indeed support the ELM327. Without that information, it is difficult if not impossible for anyone to offer any advice.

According to the text in the app store, it requires a compatible 3rd party hardware interface which must be purchased separately. Nowhere in the text does it imply that you can connect via bluetooth. It DOES mention ELM compatible WiFi. Sounds like you just plain can't do that via bluetooth.

The first thing you have to do is pair your "bluetooth receiver" (iPhone, iPad, Android Tablet or Phone, Laptop or any other bluetooth computer) to ELM327, then after pairring you will be able to get information from your car do the application.

When you go to, for example, in the iPhone settings, Bluetooth and search for the new bluetooth devices, the ELM327 is not identified at all, and it is not possible to pair. If I take the same steps with my Galaxy 5 Android 2.2 Phone, it imediately recognize the ELM327 device, pair with it, and I'm able collect data from the vehicle using any application compatible with OBD-II protocol.

Then list the applications for iOS that specifically say that they support that device and that you're trying to us. We cannot help you if you do not provide this information and I don't understand why you keep ignoring that very specific question that you've been asked several times now.

Gentlemen, excuse me, but the answer is much simpler than you want to make it appear: iPhone, iPad and most of Apple Bluetooth features are limited for some reazons that I don't agree, but it is what is it. I found my answer in another way, but I found!

Answering Mr. Varjak and Mr. KiltedTim, there is no app that support this device, because of lack Apple's Bluetooth technologie, there is no way to develop something witch will not work, don't you agree?

I have ODB Bluetooth Device (ELM327) and it works so fine with my Android device (Samsung Galaxy 5), I'm using Android Torque app to manage information and it is awsome! There are two version of this app, Torque free which have a lot of resources, like configurable gauges and so on... and Torque Full a payed version with some more resources.

The Torque Pro is an OBD2 Bluetooth app that is highly rated by many vehicle owners as the best OBD2 app for Android over 1,000,000 downloads. However, you have to pay around $5 to get the app on the Play Store, but it is worth the hassle according to trusted reviews.

With Torque Pro will get to see what your car is doing in real-time on a beautifully laid out and customizable dashboard on your mobile screen. There is also the possibility of exporting compiled data to Torque Pro servers or email so that you can use it later.

The OBD Auto Doctor operates almost in a similar fashion as most car diagnostic apps that we will cover next. It is compatible with ELM327 Bluetooth and Wifi adapters and tracks all crucial vehicle sensors and parameters in real-time.

OBD Auto Doctor allows you to monitor multiple control units such as engine and transmission while also supporting the export of collected data via email in CSV format. You will even end up saving a lot of money on your trips since the monitor fuel consumption parameter on OBD Auto Doctor is highly optimized.

InCarDoc Pro was among the best obd2 android app for cars review in 2017/2018 and will likely be among the leading obd2 apps in 2019. The application supports high-level car scanning and diagnostic which is presented in an uncluttered home screen.

You can download a free version of the app to check adapter and car compatibility before purchasing the app on the store for less than $5. InCarDoc Pro supports ELM327 USB, Bluetooth, and Wifi adapter while also having the ability to work on most new Android devices.

You can get to know about problems before they happen and if you know fault codes and their meaning, then it gets even better since you can fix the minor problems on your own and decide when it is fair to hire a professional mechanic.

Car Scanner ELM OBD2 car scanner is arguably the best monitoring tool if you consider the number of compatible devices. There are versions spread across Android, IOS, Windows PC or mobile. The fact that there have been over 2 million installs of the app across the platforms that they support shows that this car scanner is worth checking out.

The EOBD Facile is an OBD2 Car Diagnostic Android and iOS app that supports all ELM327 Wifi and Bluetooth adapters. With this app on your mobile, you can track almost all the essential gauge/parameters you need to make the right calls for your car.

The only thing you should worry about with OBDeleven is that you will need a good network connection to enjoy the One Click App feature. You will also need a Premium upgrade to get access to more exciting car tracking tools. Aside from these barriers, the app is a helpful tool for car reviews and is used by many enthusiasts and mechanics.

Dash Drive Smart is one of the car tracking apps that supports the OBDeleven software as well as many smart car analysis tools. It provides real-time data and claims to work on all cars starting from 1996 models. Yes, you read that right.

The Engine Link car diagnostic app is similar to Torque Pro but is only available for iOS devices. The app connects seamlessly with compatible ELM327 Wifi and Bluetooth adapters though there are user complaints in recent time that the Wifi connects feature is failing.

This has led to a low-rating on the app but does not take away the fact that it is one of the best car tracking application on iOS. Engine link is available for just $6 on iTunes and could solve all your car monitoring problems and keep you entirely in charge.

ScanMaster is another great car monitoring tool for ELM327 OBD2 adapters. Although it is not as popular as the other scanners, the Android application maintains a decent 4.0 rating with over 1 million installs.

The app developers are generous enough to let Lite version (free) users get some essential car parameters, such as VIN, CVN, fault codes and MIL status. However, you must purchase the pro-version to enjoy all the features including thousands of fault codes and easy-to-understand description for errors.

DashCommand prides itself as the ultimate way to turn your mobile into an advanced display for engine data and has lived true to their ambitions. The app had also won the SEMA Show best mobile electronic product award in 2014.
