I like the idea. I think centralized scoring and the other things are
good. We may even be interested in testing it in our app. I fully
support the creation of such a service.
However, I don't think it will "balance* the ecosystem. Ultimately the
same thing will happen there as has happened on the App Store. A few
*very* popular games will dominate while smaller ones can't get in.
That is the nature of an open platform. Large scale ecosystems are
very difficult to balance "fairly". I applaud the effort, and I'd love
to see it work. But I am skeptical.
I have no doubt that they can do a better job at it then iTunes. That
simply isn't a priority for apple. They don't care *who's* game you
buy, only that you buy one. and "What's hot" is a great motivation for
people.
I like onyx because more exposure is better than less. Plus it helps
solve some real issues for us developers.
