Dear brothers and Sisters,
I write again to remind you of my email some time in 2009, I believe.
I was faithfully promised by the Kono Union President that he will
present my write up at a meeting and get back to me. I am still
waiting, while our district takes the back seat in every aspect of
life. More recently, we have been challenged by the introduction of
free health care for pregnant, lactating women and for children under
five years. It was indeed a noble vision and plan envisaged by the
President. My only problem is that there was very little sensitization
and now the reseults of that lack of sensitization are taking hold.
Just this morning, on my way to the office, they were discussing on
radio about the problems the programme is facing; people who are not
sick coming to take the drugs home, overwhelmed health care workers
etc. All this would have been prevented if enough sensitizatioin was
carried out. Nevertheless, the programme is on and we should all
brace it and make it work, afterwards, it is our people who will gain
from it.
This is my point. Where does Kono Union come in? You can support the
District health teams by donating the needed drugs through a
transparent organization. They can be ordered from IDA in the
Netherlands. I did order from them while I was in the US in 1999 and
they shipped it all over to Freetown. You can provide funds to better
educate our people as to when to go to the hospital and not to collect
and keep the drugs at home, when they are not sick.
One of things I brought to your attention is that education came to
the Kono District, some 100 years ago this year and we have met with
the Mission and have agreed to celebrate it in October 2010. What will
be your contribution? How many of you will be present in Kono for
these celebrations? Please start working on these issues now and not
later.
The Kenema Distict Association has just invited their Mayor to the US
to discuss what they can do for their district. Please do act because
our people are suffering and time is not on our side.
regards to all.
