Open the list to the public?

@Jef Spaleta pointed out to me that our list is not public. You have to join in order to see messages.

That's reasonable, but it's a little unwelcoming. WDYT about opening the googlegroup up to the public, to be world readable?

World-readable makes sense to me and is a norm for discussion-oriented open source mailing lists.

I think an announcement email is warranted so that current members are aware that this is a public mailing list - and perhaps give us an opportunity to remove potentially sensitive/confidential content if it happened to leak.
