overriding default quantity of 1 from addTocartFromProductID

I'd like the AddtoCartFromProdid.do page to use a user specified
quantity instead of the default of 1.
I tried adding the AddtoCartForm to the action, but on each visit back
to a product listing page, all of the quantity fields list the last
used quantity.
Is my implementation a recommended approach or is there a "best
paractice" way of doing this.
