Hi,

This isn't exactly developing with Kona, or developing on Kona, but I felt this group would be most appropriate place to discuss this.
Unless I am mistaken, Kona currently has no project website except the Github pages. A lot of other open source projects like Python, Ruby, etc. have a project website. Maybe we should consider making one? I have a very incomplete idea for one that I uploaded here:

You can open the web page by downloading and opening up the index.html in your web browser.

If you guys don't feel the need for a website, that's ok. If you guys don't feel like my website is the way to go, that's ok too. I'm just putting it out there, since there might be a need for one in the future. If you guys do the like my idea, I will continue working on the website.

Thanks.

It's OK with me if you want to work on a website for Kona.
I defer to Kevin as to whether he wants another website (in addition to kevinlawler.com).

The dev list is appropriate for discussing the website.

Kona doesn't have a webpage yet. This is a good idea.

I think it's great. It is a radical improvement over what we had before, which was nothing. Please continue with your work. I could suggest lots of things, but in the beginning, I think you should have some creative space to get it how you want it. When you are ready, if you ask the list for suggestions I am sure you will hear many.

The one thing I would stipulate now is that the website should not be siloed. Any project contributor should be able to edit it. Actually, I would prefer to have it more like the wiki if that is possible, where anybody can edit it.

We have the `kona` github username. This gives us the web address http://kona.github.io. I provisionally suggest using that web address. By making changes to the repo at https://github.com/kona/kona.github.io we can update the website. I've added @thyrgle as a contributor. If there is a more appropriate place for the website, or if I need to purchase a domain name, please let me know.

Kevin

I by no means wish to give the impression that I am professional web developer or even a web developer at all, so my understanding of things could be wrong, you may want to ask someone you know to make sure my understanding is correct.

I have been looking into how Github pages works. Github pages according to this website:

creates static web pages. From my understanding of static webpages they aren't really designed to be edited by users; a dynamic page is needed with a backend framework. I guess you guys are using gollum (https://github.com/gollum/gollum) to create the project wiki. If you are concerned with changing the look and feel of the wiki it mentions how to do so in the README but it also mentions allowing every user to change stuff like the css and js can lead to security issues.

At the current moment the home page links to Github page for the download and the wiki for the documentation.

Static page as a repo is fine. It doesn't need to get more complicated than that yet.

Ok, I think now I have created at least the general structure for the webpage and if you have further suggestions or changes now would be a good time to present them.

Also, I am currently leaving the wiki on the Github pages, since Github Pages is not suited well for a wiki environment.

I downloaded and viewed the webpage on 32-bit Linux using the XFCE desktop and Midori browser.  It worked fine.  Looks good.

I downloaded it to my Windows laptop.  When I double-clicked on index.html it brought up the webpage in Internet Explorer.  It did not work well there.
When I loaded the page using Google Chrome on the Windows laptop, it worked fine.

From my perspective, the Internet Explorer issue is not a big concern, since I normally use Google Chrome on the Windows laptop.
Just letting you know.

Oh BTW:  I tried the "Learn More" and "Documentation" in Midori and Chrome.
I did not try the "Download" feature in any environment.

Ok, now that I think about it, "Download" should be really name "Install" because it doesn't actually download anything just an instruction page as to how to get Kona running on a computer. As for Internet Explorer, I have a Mac and don't have IE. I made a small fix for now which should *in theory* make things work on IE. I'll look into the ways for getting around my lack of IE.

Also, there is no need to download the website, it can be found here: http://kona.github.io/

Thanks for the input.

"...it doesn't actually download anything just an instruction page as to how to get Kona running"

Then it probably should not be named "Install" either.
Maybe "How To Get"?
