Invitation for ‘Solar Micro Cold Storage’ Inauguration | 13th October

Seasons Greetings - hope this festive season brings light to you and your family. Switch ON-ONergy celebrates 6 Years of Innovation and Impact, and on this ocassion we are also inaugurating a 'Solar Micro Cold Storage' on Monday 13th October 2014 at tapovON, Betna, Nadia, and we would like to invite you for the occasion – to come and share your inspiring thoughts and vision with farmers from the area.

Date - Monday, 13 October 2014 | Time - 1:00 pm

Venue – TapovON, Neel Kuthi, Kuthi Para, Betna Village, Nadia, West Bengal

Road - Take the NH34 from Kolkata towards Ranaghat and turn right from Badkula towards Hanskhali - Map
Train - Prefered method of travel . Suggested trains to take to the site from Kolkata are -

For Local travel - Sealdah Gede Local - 7:40 AM from Sealdah or 7:55 AM from Dumdum (Get off at Bagula Station at 9:50 AM) and Return from Bagula at 15:58
For Reserved A/c Seats - Hazarduari Express To - 13113 and Return - 13114

Pick up and Drop will be organised from Krishnanagar and Bagula train stations .

The Solar Micro Cold Storage (SMCS) project is supported by GIZ IGENRE, and will be one of its kind in India. It will be managed by a Farmer Producer Organization that will provide the small farmers with the unique opportunity to store their produce, and get benefits from price fluctuations. 

Some unique features of the SMCS are -

- Capacity of 9 Tonnes, that will store horticulture produce for 7 to 10 days.
- Low cost Technology (70% less expensive than traditional systems) also using less energy than conventional cooling methods.
- Cold Storage encapsulated by a structure built with natural material, inspired from Dochala, a two-sided sloped roof prevalent in Bengal in 1860’s – a perfect mix of new technology and natural practices.

We would also like to demonstrate other sustainable technologies we have setup in the local area -

1) 2 HP Solar Water Pump run by a entrepreneur, setup with support from NABARD RIF.

2) Solar ICT Centre / Computer lab

3) Demonstration of an Integrated - Organic farm.

4) Working of a FPC (Farmer Producer Company)
