So I've been using autocad for years, around a decade now, and have never experienced this when upgrading my autocad issue. I've just upgraded to 2022, autocad MEP. I transferred all my settings and options over, all my CUI custom commands and keystrokes etc... started to get to work and noticed the command line was prompting commands that weren't what I wanted. for example, I would type in "off" and quickly press enter because of muscle memory and get the command "offset face" when i expected "offset". well ok, I'm working in MEP so that makes sense, I got in the "input search options" and rearranged the priorities so that the architectural commands have precedent.
That was the prerequisite information to my current problem which is another command. one of my most used commands is typing "sel" which typically prompts with "select" and then typing "pre" which typically prompts with "previous". the problem is I keep getting the prompt "selecturl" when typing "sel" and the command line isnt recognizing "pre" at all.
Not all of the commands and system variables in AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT are available in the AutoCAD web app. The following is a list of commands and system variables that can be launched using the command line.
Both the DIST and MEASUREGEOM commands report quantities measured based on the current UNITS settings. If you are in an imperial drawing and are set to architectural units with 1/256" precision, then that is what you are going to get (assuming that the distance will not round to a smaller denominator fraction).
IMO, units should be set to 1/32", no less precise because otherwise, you won't see anything more accurate. It's especially a problem if units are set up less precise than 1/4" because, the dimstyle dialogs values cannot be entered more accurately.
No matter how many times I change the setting, it does not stay that way. I can set the units in the units tab, check save as default, click apply, then change the annotation plot size in the scale tab, check save as default, click apply - and none of it sticks.
If you are expecting your settings to float to new drawings based on a template, that probably won't work. I think ACA still depends on its templates. Start a new drawing based on your project template. (Be sure you know the name and location of the project template file). Make the changes there and save it back to the same template file in the same location. Then other drawings should work correctly. Another approach that might work is to use project standards. I haven't used those in a while but they're worthwhile to set up.
I'm not expecting them to float from drawing to drawing. I just kind of expect that when I change a setting, it sticks at least with that particular file. I did not create the file I am working on currently, so I do not know what template it was created from. However, it does not seem to matter. It is the same no matter which file I am working in.
We can see what is happening but in order for us to look under the hood to discover "WHY" it's happening, you need to post the drawing. Erase everything in the drawing and save it to a test drawing. Then post that.
I opened the drawing and the units was set to a precision of 1/256. After changing the units precision to 1/32, the distance command reported correctly. After changing the dimstyle, dimensions reported correctly. After changing the ACA dimstyle, they would probably report correctly. I saved and reopened the drawing and it retained its settings.
One other very important item of information: If you are working on ACA 2012, you will not be able to open, change, or even affect the units of a drawing created in a later format. Since there was no warning on the test.dwg you provided about upgrading, it appears you are trying to edit a 2015/2017 drawing in 2012 ACA. I don't think this will work. In order to have complete functionality, you need to upgrade or find team members to work with you that still have the older version. If you have plain AutoCAD 2017, then editing ACA drawings is still problematic.
I came in this morning and opened AutoCad as usaul and created single line text. I changed the current style and height. I input my text but the width was wrong for that style so I highlighted it and right clicked to bring up the modify menu to choose properties but what happened instead was the last command was re-activated. What ever I do before right clicking always re-actived that particular command no matter what I highlight. Is this a variable issue?
Going to where you suggested I found that the "short cut menus in drawing area" was unchecked. By checking it that brought the menu up but the "properties" was gone and two other functions was on the list that were not there before. You might need to know that I had recently created a new CUI file. Would that have any control over this?
I've always typed in "D" for Dimensions when using the Rectangle command. There are custom lisp routines that operate the way you specified however so I'm wondering if that's what you were using previous to this.
Sorry, I have my buttons set to display as text. I don't like icons. Your icons look very different from mine though, so I don't know which button toggles dynamic input. I'm surprised to see the 2015 interface looks so much different than 2014.
If you find that your Dynamic Input is already enabled but you're still having this issue, check your settings. Type DSETTINGS at the command line. This will open the Drafting Settings window. Make sure you're on the "Dynamic Input" tab, click the "Settings" button and make sure you have "Relative Coordinates" selected. See below.
I didn't even know the "D" option existed before today, with dynamic input it's automatic to input relative sizes after the initial start point (at least I thought it was), and the area and rotation options are a revelation as well.
I don't have 2021 yet, but Help for it is available on-line, and Help for the TRIM command will tell you about that. You're in "Quick" mode, and you want to be in "Standard" mode. The TRIMEXTENDMODE controls that.
I have been looking at forums and reddit and youtube tutorials all day, but I cannot get these solutions to work for me. I checked the trimextendmode variable, standard mode, quick mode, fence, crossing, everything.
I am attaching a video showing what the command does for me, where it should be a very very simple trimming operation. I uninstalled the 2022 and reinstalled it as well, just in case it was an installation issue but no..
Regarding the video, the problem is the fact that it completely ignores the object in between, and trims all the way back to another line. I know it's a problem that can be solved in other ways such as stretch, grip edit, etc. but there should be a simpler way that does not set me back that much time every time i am trimming something (which is very often)
Why not though?! Those lines would have worked perfectly as trimming boundaries in the 2019 version. (I architecturally/geometrically don't understand why that doesn't qualify as a boundary. it's a closed polyline with two intersecting lines that fully touch the object's boundary)
I highly doubt that it is the elevation/z-value, I spent quite a bit of time making sure it was all 2d since this had been a big issue for me in the past. (but also, with autocad this is a delicate matter and it can very easily turn out that one singular line's z value messes up the whole drawing)
the ucs kind of has to be rotated because this is an xref attached into a main drawing (oriented north) but the way this building sits on the site is not ortho, so for alignment reasons i have to flip the ucs a bit.
the second file i sent here, i tried to trim with the 'world' ucs as well, same problem. maybe i added a z component while flipping. thank you for taking a look, very much appreciated!! maybe i should migrate into a different file.
AutoCAD is the flagship product of the software company Autodesk. Created in 1982 to enable the production of high quality 2D and 3D technical drawings, it was actually the first CAD software developed for PCs.
Today, AutoCAD is considered to be one of the leading design programs available and has grown to be the most widely used CAD software out there. With new applications facilitating mobile-friendly options and the use of cloud storage services, the software continues to evolve by integrating technological advancements.
The above list of AutoCAD commands should help make it easy when working with the AutoCAD software and also improve the overall productivity. While a majority of beginners only master the basic AutoCAD commands, mastering the entire AutoCAD command list gives you an upper hand when it comes to working with AutoCAD.
Restores the most recently deleted items. Its advantage over U is that you can use it after using BLOCK (or WBLOCK, export selected items to a new .DWG file), because those commands can delete selected objects after creating a block.
Explore this comprehensive list of AutoCAD Commands and their functionalities, unlocking the potential to enhance your design process. Learn to utilise these commands or keyboard shortcuts effectively to streamline your workflow and maximise productivity. Mastering each command boosts AutoCAD efficiency, empowering precise and creation.
Blocks enable you to encapsulate a group of objects into a single entity, while attributes provide additional data and flexibility within those blocks. Let's explore the key block and attribute commands:
