I have the Live CD loaded and Koha seems to be working fine so far.
My wife, the librarian, still needs to do the setup for that. I don't
plan on touching Koha due to the difficulty of upgrading. Can you see
any problem in upgrading Ubuntu to 11.04 to get some of the updated
software? Thanks much!

Koha and the server stuff should work fine. Please do report in if they don't.

However, some of my clients have had trouble with 11.04 (but not the Koha part), most usually related to the new Unity interface. You might want to try 11.04 (ubuntu's live cd) on that hardware before you upgrade.

The 11.04 upgrade totally blew Koha away! I used an Ubuntu 11.04
Desktop CD and used option #2 "Upgrade Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04" (which I
understand only comes up if a network connection is present). It
started the upgrade including a section where it saved all the
installed packages. Everything seemed to be going great, but at the
end, where it was restoring previously installed packages it got an
error. The message said the upgrade would continue but that "you
might have to re-install some of your packages". I guess! Apache2
was gone, Mysql was gone, Koha was gone. Only thing left of Koha was
the User Manual on the desktop, the two Firefox desktop links (which
didn't work), and one file in /var/ somewhere. :-) Needless to say I
wouldn't recommend that upgrade method. Not sure if an upgrade from
the Update Manager would be any better for Koha but I'd tried that
earlier on another Ubuntu system and got an error while calculating
packages (had something to do with desktopcouch, I think, which is
well documented on the web). Well, fortunately, the Koha Live CD is
very easy to load! I just installed it again and it is finishing up
now... Not sure if I'll try a different upgrade path or not? I may
just stay with 10.10 and add some packages I like manually. By the
way, I don't like the new Unity desktop in 11.04. I always just use
the Classic Desktop myself. Take care...

Thanks for the feedback, so that the users can be careful not to do it.

Following your report, I tried an alternative method using "do-release-upgrade" command from the terminal. The tool refused to upgrade when it failed to calculate the changes.

I also tried simply changing the repository to natty. The apt-get upgrade process works ok and it boots, but the system couldn't start the GUI because Unity makes some kind of dialog prompt that could not be clicked on.
