Hi all,

I’m happy to share the release of a completely redesigned experience
for working with DMN models in popular IDEs. This is a substantial
overhaul, with new capabilities for debugging and testing models
intended to make DMN development much more productive.

The extensions are free to use and available for:

- Cursor and other Open VSX-compatible editors:
https://open-vsx.org/extension/aletyx/automation-design
- VS Code: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Aletyx.automation-design
- IntelliJ IDEA:
https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/33190-aletyx-automation-design

BPMN is also supported, although that experience remains similar to
the Apache KIE release.

I hope these tools will be useful to the Kogito and wider DMN
community. Feedback, suggestions, and reports from real-world use are
very welcome.

Hi,
is this tool open source?
What is the relationship between it and the repository https://github.com/apache/incubator-kie-tools ? Which is the official tool that should be used for editing bpmn?

I am asking because I was using the Apache KIE Kogito Bundle https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=kie-group.vscode-extension-kogito-bundle , but I got an error that was fixed upstream and not released, so I started to use the nightly version of the editor (see https://groups.google.com/g/kogito-development/c/JLHMCvs7MP4/m/sF-93iC9CAAJ ). Should I start to use the other one? What is the suggested approach?

At the moment I am fine with the nightly, my main worries is some regression that might break my BPMNs. I have noticed that a new version of the editor can always open a bpmn saved with an older version, but the other way around is not true. So, I am afraid that in the nightly there is some new feature that will be not available or gets removed in the real "next release".

Thanks in advance,
best regards,
Alberto Lerda

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for asking. The Aletyx DMN extension is free to use and fully
compatible with Apache KIE, which is why I shared it here. However, it
is a proprietary Aletyx product. It is not open source, part of Apache
KIE, or affiliated with the Apache KIE project. For transparency, I am
a co-founder of Aletyx.

The extension focuses on DMN and does not replace the Apache KIE tools
for BPMN editing. For BPMN, I suggest following the Apache KIE
project’s guidance on stable versus nightly releases.
