Irecently installed WAMP, changed no settings, and now it is starting whenever I log in. Unlike most other questions I found on SE/Google, I would like it to only start when I run a file (wampmanager.exe or something else?). Is this possible, and how would I set it up (Windows 10, WAMP 3.06 64bit)

The problemI have been using wamp for many years, without any problems. Then Skype came and stole port 80, but that could be solved in the settings of Skype. But since installing Windows 10 more and more Windows features seem to occupy port 80. On my computer it is primarilly BranchCache that causes problems. For a long time that could also be managed by disabeling BranchCache and setting it not to start. But for the last month or so the service ignores the disabled setting. Which is really anoying. This means that every time I start restart my computer I have to disable that service before starting WAMP. The last week matters got even worse, because the service was restarted again and again, so every time I changed a setting and restarted WAMP I had to stop BranchCache. And for some reason even more services seemed to block port 80.

net stop http stops all services currently occupying port 80. Then the wampmanager.exe starts the WAMP server. But in order for this to work you need to run it as administrator. You can do this easily by creating a shortcut to the bat-script and configure the shortcut to start the script as administrator. Now this is the script I run every time I need to start the WAMP server.

Hope you enjoy this tip, and maby it has opened your eyes to more things you can automate on your computer. For instance if you have a list of applications you are starting for work, you could actually start all by the click of one icon, just by creating a small script like this.

After using this strategy for a while I realized that it was also killing my printer drivers and other usefull stuff on the computer. To solve this I accepted the defeat and changed the port number on the apache server. I do not like this solution but at least it does not cause any conflicts on the computer... Only with me having to make sure I always type the right port number in the url.

WAMP server is a platform tool for serving PHP applications on Windows. It includes a combination of Apache, MySQL and PHP service which can help developers test or run PHP applications with minimal setup.

Sometimes one would first have a 32 bit version of WAMP installed and a few applications have been configured. But later s/he would mistakenly installed a 64 bit version of WAMP and somehow the 32 bit version configuration is overwritten. This causes a problem where the old applications configured for 32 bit WAMP will not function any more even if the 32 bit version of WAMP server is started.

The reason for this is that the 32 bit version wampmanager.conf is overwritten and all services are pointing to the 64 bit version services. Hence even if the 32 bit version WAMP server is started, the services started are 64 bit indeed.

Now start the 32 bit wampmanager.exe in C:\wamp and n the desktop tray, the red icon would appear which indicates one or more services are not up. In this case, the service may need to be reinstalled. Click the red icon and select each service on the menu and click Install Service.

To start the WampServer, double click "WampServer" icon on your desktop. Or run "wampmanager.exe" from the WampServer installed directory. An icon will appear on the icon tray. "Green" icon indicates that all the services have started. "Red" indicates that all the services have stopped. Make sure that you are getting green tray icon as shown below.

Runtime errors are WampServer errors that occur during "runtime". Runtime is pretty self-explanatory; it means that these EXE errors are triggered when wampmanager.exe is attempted to be loaded either when WampServer is starting up, or in some cases already running. Runtime errors are the most common form of EXE error you will encounter using WampServer.

In most cases, wampmanager.exe runtime errors occurring while the program is running will result in the program terminating abnormally. Most of these wampmanager.exe error messages mean that WampServer was either unable to locate this file on startup, or the file is corrupt, resulting in a prematurely-aborted startup process. Generally, WampServer will be unable to start without resolving these errors.

Finding the source of the wampmanager.exe error is key to properly resolving these errors. Although most of these EXE errors affecting wampmanager.exe will happen during startup, occasionally you will encounter a runtime error while using WampServer 3.1.9. This can occur due to poor programming on behalf of Aestan Software, conflicts with other software or 3rd-party plug-ins, or caused by damaged and outdated hardware. Also, these types of wampmanager.exe errors can occur if it has been accidentally moved, deleted, or corrupted by a malware infection. Thus, it's critical to make sure your anti-virus is kept up-to-date and scanning regularly.

If you're encountering one of the error messages above, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve your wampmanager.exe issue. These troubleshooting steps are listed in the recommended order of execution.

When the first two steps haven't solved your issue, it might be a good idea to run Windows Update. Many wampmanager.exe error messages that are encountered can be contributed to an outdated Windows Operating System. To run Windows Update, please follow these easy steps:

If none of the previous three troubleshooting steps have resolved your issue, you can try a more aggressive approach (Note: Not recommended for amateur PC users) by downloading and replacing your appropriate wampmanager.exe file version. We maintain a comprehensive database of 100% malware-free wampmanager.exe files for every applicable version of WampServer. Please follow the steps below to download and properly replace you file:

GEEK TIP : We must emphasize that reinstalling Windows will be a very time-consuming and advanced task to resolve wampmanager.exe problems. To avoid data loss, you must be sure that you have backed-up all of your important documents, pictures, software installers, and other personal data before beginning the process. If you are not currently backing up your data, you need to do so immediately.

CAUTION : We strongly advise against downloading and copying wampmanager.exe to your appropriate Windows system directory. Romain Bourdon typically does not release WampServer EXE files for download because they are bundled together inside of a software installer. The installer's task is to ensure that all correct verifications have been made before installing and placing wampmanager.exe and all other EXE files for WampServer. An incorrectly installed EXE file may create system instability and could cause your program or operating system to stop functioning altogether. Proceed with caution.
