Worthy Brother Knights & Ladies,

I am going to get back in the habit of sending out regular, if not weekly, updates on upcoming events.  There are a few things on the immediate horizon and I wanted to get reminders out to you.

Tuesday, August 17 (TONIGHT!), 7:30p: Knights of Columbus Informational Open House.  Normally I would ask you to please RSVP to Gene Jajuga at genej...@verizon.net or (727) 403-3261 but this thing is going down in a few hours so just show up.  Please share with any Catholic gentlemen that you think may be interested in joining the Order.  Wear a council shirt if you have one.

Wednesday, August 18, Silver Rose Pilgrimage Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, from 2p – 7p.  The Silver Rose Service will occur at 6:30p, and will conclude with Benediction immediately following.  JFK Council 5635 of the Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary invite those attending to a light reception in the Dubois Center following Benediction.  The Silver Rose pilgrimage occurs annually throughout North America sponsored by the Knights of Columbus enabling the faithful to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and express both international unity and dedication to the sanctity of human life.  The pilgrimage started in 1960 when a group of young men, Squiresk in the Knights of Columbus, wanted to give something back to Our Lady of Guadalupe in thanksgiving for blessings upon her people in Mexico.  The idea developed to run a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico to commemorate Juan Diego and the Miracle of the Roses.  The first Rose was a natural rose blessed by Bishop John C. Cody of London, flown to New York then shepherded by the Knights through Texas and handed-off to the Squires at a service at the International Bridge in Laredo, TX for their final run through Mexico to the Basilica.  The popularity of the Rose has grown and in the 61 years since annual pilgrimages have grown into eight Silver Roses that start in Canada on separate routes traversing the United States and ending in Mexico.  This year the Roses began their journey in March and will travel from city to city, including one route through Dunedin at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  Each stop that the Silver Rose makes during the pilgrimage is a moment centered on the rosary, where members of the community pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe throughout North America and the World.

Saturday, August 21, 8a - 10a: Kimberly Home Work Day (1189 NE Cleveland St, Clearwater, FL 33755).  By showing up monthly (3rd Saturday) we can help Kimberly Home decrease the burden of the yard (both physically upon the one person on staff and financially avoid hiring the service).  This workday is open to all – Brothers, wives, their children (a great experience), friends, prospects.  The more that show up the more that gets accomplished.  Thanks to Brother Brain Annis for arranging these Saturday’s and keeping us to a timeframe achievable by most of our membership.  Bring gloves, water, yard tools you may have (rakes, hedge trimmer, blowers).

Remember to Pray every day!

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Mary, Queen of the Knights – Pray for us!

ORATIO IMPERATA

God our Father,

We come to you in our need

To ask your protection against the 2019 N-Corona Virus,

That has claimed lives

And has affected many.

We pray for your grace

For the people tasked with studying the nature and cause

Of this virus and its disease

And of stemming the tide of its transmission.

Guide the hands and minds of medical experts

That they may minister to the sick

With competence and compassion,

And of those governments and private agencies

That must find a cure and solution to this epidemic.

We pray for those afflicted

May they be restored to health soon.

Grant us the grace

To work for the good of all

And to help those in need.

Grant this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son,

Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, forever and ever.  Amen

Best,
JJ

Just a quick follow up...

Thanks to all that attended the Open House last evening!

Gentle reminder about the Silver Rose Pilgrimage adoration and Benediction this afternoon at OLL.

And, I'm asking that candidates and participants please wear a jacket and tie for tomorrow's Unified Degree Exemplification; fellow Knights in attendance may wear council/assembly shirts.

Peace,
JJ
