hey folks:
just wanted to raise the issue about reporting in general. As we all know data analysis and reporting is super critical for all NGO's. We are working with three or four orgs in india, all using various forms of the ODK stack (we've deployed kobo at Shelter, the others are using commcare) and all of them are struggling with reporting. Many of them are doing it manually with little / no automation.
commcare recently released a simple report builder:
http://www.dimagi.com/blog/report-builder/ While not a full-fledged report builder like jasper reports, pentaho or birt, its at least one solid step in the right direction.
wondering what folks think about:
a. adding something like that to the kobotoolkit
b. deploying a framework so adding new "custom" reports is relatively easy (there might be some python packages that we can build on)
OR
a. seeing if integrating with an exisiting open source report builder is relatively easy and a better path. The main drawback is these UI's are quite complex. However administrators can build fairly powerful reports without any developer intervention
thoughts? comments? if this has been discussed in the past, links to the discussion would be great
once again, thanx for a wonderful project and solid support.
