New Choral Group forming in West Knoxville

(09/29/2009/Knoxville) – Chorale, a new choral group created to train
and showcase singers, begins rehearsing on Tuesday, September 29, in
Farragut with rehearsal space provided by the NewLight Presbyterian
Church at 225 Jamestowne Boulevard (off of Campbell Station Road).
Sponsored by the Farragut Chamber Music Society, Chorale is built in
the framework of a repertory theater company but showcases singers
instead of actors. A period of rehearsals will be followed by a series
of area concerts at churches, book stores, and libraries. Both
rehearsals and concerts take place on Tuesday evenings. “Our goal is
to bring the music where the people already are, as well as help
singers gain experience performing as soloists with choral groups,”
says Noel Jones, director.

Chorale will perform music from Gregorian Chant to Opera and welcomes
singers ages 12 and up to audition. Music is picked to show off the
talents of the soloists. Auditions are required; soloists must
audition individually, while Choristers audition as part of Chorale’s
rehearsals. "Choristers are the backbone of the organization," says
Jones. "The way they sing in a group is what's important, so we won't
make them stand up and sing by themselves."

Chorale’s members agree to sing for twelve weeks at a time, rotating
in and out based on schedules and the repertoire being sung during
that time period. A nominal membership fees applies to cover the cost
of music and is on a sliding scale based on age and employment.
Singers are invited to attend a trial rehearsal. For more
information, contact Director Noel Jones at 423-887-7594 or
