You create and manipulate your documents and files using various elements, such as panels, bars, and windows. Any arrangement of these elements is called a workspace. (The workspaces of different Adobe creative applications share similar appearances so that you can move between the applications easily.) You can adapt Photoshop to the way you work by selecting from several preset workspaces or by creating one of your own.

The Contextual task bar is a floating menu that presents the most relevant next steps in your workflow. You can now adjust text alignment, spacing (leading and kerning), and font style (bolding, italicizing, underlining) directly from the Contextual Task Bar.

You now have the power to snap the app windows in the Photoshop desktop app. This feature adopts the new visual style for app windows that can be easily customized for dynamically snapping application windows to pre-configured display regions. This will help ease the management of multiple applications running side by side.

You can temporarily display hidden panels if Auto-Show Hidden Panels is selected in Interface preferences. Move the pointer to the edge of the application window (Windows) or to the edge of the monitor (Mac OS) and hover over the strip that appears.

In Photoshop, you can change the font size of the text in panels and tooltips. In the Interface preferences, choose a size from the UI Font Size menu. To scale the entire Photoshop UI based on the UI Font Size you've chosen, select the Scale UI To Font.

By selecting the double-arrow icon positioned at the upper-left corner of the Toolbar, you can enlarge it, transforming it into a more compact, double-column format. Select the arrows once more to revert to the original single-column layout.

As you movepanels, you see blue highlighted drop zones, areaswhere you can move the panel. For example, you can move a panelup or down in a dock by dragging it to the narrow blue drop zoneabove or below another panel. If you drag to an area that is nota drop zone, the panel floats freely in the workspace.

When youdrag a panel out of its dock but not into a drop zone, the panelfloats freely. The floating panel allows you to position it anywherein the workspace. You can stack floating panels or panel groupsso that they move as a unit when you drag the topmost title bar.

You can also perform simple math in any input box that accepts numeric values.
For example, if you want to increase the canvas size by an additional 50 pixels, you can simply type '+50' to the current width or height field value in the Canvas Size dialog.

Bysaving the current size and position of panels as a named workspace, you can restore that workspace even if you move or close a panel. The names of saved workspaces appear in the workspace switcher inthe Application bar.

Figuring out what Photoshop tools do is now easier than ever before! When you hover the pointer over certain tools in the Tools panel, Photoshop displays a description and a short video of the tool in action.

In addition, you can adjust per-monitor scaling across monitors with different scaling factors. This flexibility ensures that a high resolution (HiDPI) laptop works seamlessly alongside a lower-resolution desktop monitor, or vice versa. For example, one of your monitors can have a scale factor of 175%, while another monitor can have a scale factor of 400%. So, you can choose either the highest-end 13-inch laptops with 4k screens, the more affordable 1080p models, or tap into 8k desktop monitors, and still have an uncompromised experience within Photoshop.

I am having trouble running my Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 on my new laptop. When I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 I was running it on Windows Vista Home Premium, but have since upgraded to Windows 10. I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 on my new laptop and have had nothing but trouble. I was at first able to run the program and access my Catalogue through running the Trouble Shooter and selecting Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (or 3). However, since yesterday I can no longer access my program. If I try to open the Edit and Enhance Photos feature, the program freezes up on launch (where it says reading preferences) and does not open. If I try to open View and Organize Photos, the program also freezes and says that it failed to launch the Catalogue. Several people told me to uninstall the Adobe program from my computer and re-install it. However, after having done so I am still having the same problems. Can you provide me with more assistance? At this time I have uninstalled Adobe from my computer again and am waiting to do a fresh install with some guidance.

I was hoping there might be a work-around to getting the program to work. Strangely, my friend is able to run theirs on Windows 10 without problems. Do you happen to know if I would be able to open my 5.0 projects on the newest version of Adobe Photoshop? I want to be able to access and work on my old projects and hopefully get my Catalogue back. How would I go about doing this?

Open Notepad, paste the code, save as "PSLaunch.bat" instead of a ".txt", and if you want to make life extra easy, redirect your photoshop shortcut to the file. Please note, that this assumes you used the default install directory, if you installed it elsewhere, you will need to change the directory.

This code deletes the preferences file which seems to be the issue on Win 10 (and unfortuanately where all the settings are saved, so every launch the settings will be reset) and allows it to properly launch on Windows 10. Kind of a crappy work around but it works every time as of Win 10 20H2

I've run it on Windows 10 since Win10 was released, and for the first few years it gave me no issues. However, on more recent updates (19XX/20XX builds), even with a fresh install of windows, it will randomly either work or get hung during launch. The bat file just helps to garentee that PSE5 launches consistantly.

1.- For example in photoshop normally i work with images using the clipboard. So for fast work i need to use the clipboard a lot, so is there a way that with affinity i can create a new file and that affinity uses the resolution ppi and color space of the clipboard image?(for example i do this, ctrl+c, alt+tab, ctrl+n, enter, ctrl+v, alt+tab and repeat) i literally work in 10 to 40 images at a time so to copy, paste and create a new one it takes 3 seconds with photoshop, meanwhile with affinity it takes me 10 times longer, and i need to use this to create the files fast and be done with it, but with affinity i have to set the resolution and ppi of every image everytime.

2.-Also, there is a tool that is exactly the counterpart to "spot healing brush tool"?. I need to know if exactly this one is there. By that i mean that i dont have to put a specific spot that i need as a reference, because this tool is more automatic because it functions based on surroundings without me setting a point. I know that the Healing brush tool is there, but with that one i need to set a reference point, instead of it automatically doing things based on surroundings.

3.-Is there an option that makes the image "lock" between the borders for easier alignment like in photoshop a key or something? because Affinity does it perfect with the up and down borders by locking into place based on the size of the image when im holding the Shift key, but the sides dont lock into place and i have to spend more time aligning things than what i usually do(same when im resizing the image, i cant lock it to the borders, up, down, left and right or a corner), i would like to know if there is something that can make the images also lock when they "hit" each other just like in photoshop. Also trying to align something to the center also is harder.

5.-Is there a key that i can press so when i have a text box, i can click anywhere to move it? when working fast is hard to exactly click the border of the text box to move it. For example with photoshop i just press CTRL key to start moving the text box, but in affinity i need to change tool witch is not convenient, because i just need to move the text box but i still need to edit the text or do something with the text box.

6.- Is there a way that when i copy a layer and paste it, it doesnt paste the layer in the same place as the existing one? i would like to copy and paste layers, but that when im pasting the layer its on the center of the part of the screen im looking at in the canvas, otherwise they are just stacking into place.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe for Windows and macOS. It was originally created in 1987 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, the software has become the most used tool for professional digital art, especially in raster graphics editing. Owing to its fame, the program's name has become genericised as a verb (e.g. "to photoshop an image", "photoshopping", and "photoshop contest")[7] although Adobe disapproves of such use.[8]

Photoshop can edit and compose raster images in multiple layers and supports masks, alpha compositing and several color models. Photoshop uses its own PSD and PSB file formats to support these features. In addition to raster graphics, Photoshop has limited abilities to edit or render text and vector graphics (especially through clipping path for the latter), as well as 3D graphics and video. Its feature set can be expanded by plug-ins; programs developed and distributed independently of Photoshop that run inside it and offer new or enhanced features.
