Can't install Alcohol 120 on Windows 7, it starts of the install by wanting to install SPTD drivers, say it needs to reboot Windows which it does, upon reboot when Alcohol restarts it wants to reinstall SPTD drivers and does this every single time. If I try to install the SPTD drivers manually using the latest one it tells me there are no SPTD drivers detected in Windows. Is there any way to install Alcohol without installing the SPTD drivers because it seems that there could be some sort of issue with them, tried install in safe mode but got the exact same problem it WON'T install the SPTD drivers. Any help with this is most appreciated.

Sorry about the dbl post, didn't see the message at the top saying it was to approved, any way got it fixed in the end. Tried installing it in safe mode with no luck, still got the SPTD boot loop. To fix it I had to run msconfig in diagnostic mode, install SPTD reboot, on restart install Alcohol 120, reboot only then would SPTD install properly and not get the loop, then go back to normal boot in msconfig. Seems to be some issue within SPTD that causes this install loop that seems prevalent in it.

Just opened msconfig and chose diagnostic startup, where it loads just basic devices and services only, seemed to do the trick. I guess it's basically starting in a clean boot into Windows where nothing loads, no AV or anything, I previously tried booting into safe mode but that didn't work, then found a post in Duplex's forums where someone said to load up msconfig in diagnostic startup and go from there. Tried finding the post on Duplex's forums that showed exactly what to do, but can't will look again later, but I think how I posted what I did is pretty close to how it was described, any how it worked.

Ok found the post, the link is =7 second post down by thorewi, followed those instruction and low and behold SPTD installed and Alcohol 120% instaled without any issues, don't know if it will work for everyone but it worked for me at least.

I have tired so many times to install i reboot durning the install when it asked me to now when i try to coutine it failed i am getting an error message you must reboot after previous operation alcohol 120

Thank you @Charalambos ! I have been a customer since 2009 and today is the first time I've ever had a problem. Went to mount an image and nothing happened when I double-clicked on the image. Then I looked and there was no virtual drive. Tried to add it, uninstall/reinstall, you name it. Finally came here and realized that I had KB4467702 installed. I uninstalled it, rebooted and it works! I had to go into the settings and set # of virtual drives to 1 but it added it and all is working.

I select "one" as "Number of Virtual Drives", a windows pops up saying "Applying the Alcohol virtual device settings. Please wait... ", after a few seconds it disappears but the virtual drives hasn't been created.

I tried to uninstall it by selecting "Uninstall updates" (which brings up Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features/Installed Updates but this update KB4467702 is not listed as an installed update, so I cannot remove it from here.

Hello, I installed yesterday windows 10 x 64 vers. 1903 and when installing 120% alcohol they get Device Driver error failed! (Alcohol Virtual AHCI Controller Management Service), the computer works very hard, shutdown takes a long time and starts the same! With the previous version worked correctly, what can this error be?

Alcohol 120%, is a powerful Windows CD and DVD burning software that makes it easy to create backups of DVDs* and CDs. Additionaly, the program lets you store your most used CDs as images on your computer, and you can mount them on 1 of the 31 virtual drives with a click of a button.

Our burning software includes a Pre-Mastering function which lets you burn files directly from your hard drive, and supports Blu-ray format and HD DVD.Compatible with all Windows 32 and 64 bit operating systems up to Windows 10.

Librarians and school administrators use Alcohol 120% burning software to archive their institutions' collections of recordable media, protecting themselves against the daily wear and tear that damages discs.

Business users use Alcohol 120% burning software to make duplicate backup copies of software titles, ensuring that they will continue to have access to their licensed software, even if their physical CDs become damaged and unusable.

Alcohol 120% is a disk image emulator and disc burning software for Microsoft Windows developed by Alcohol Soft. An edition named Alcohol 52% is also offered which lacks the burning engine.[2] The software can create image files from a source CD/DVD/Blu-ray, as well as mount them in virtual drives, all in the proprietary Media Descriptor File format; images in this format consist of a pair of .mds and .mdf files.[3]

Alcohol 120%'s image recording feature is capable of bypassing certain copy protection schemes, such as SafeDisc, SecuROM, and Data Position Measurement (DPM). However, certain copy protection schemes require burner hardware that is capable of reproducing the copy protection. It can also create images of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 file systems. It lacks the ability to back up DVD titles encrypted with the Content Scramble System. Due to legal restrictions, Alcohol Soft has opted not to include this feature.

Some software manufacturers employ software blacklisting methods to prevent Alcohol 120% from copying their discs. Initially, users had to use third-party tools to counteract the blacklisting, such as Anti-blaxx, CureROM, and Y.A.S.U. Later, Alcohol 120% included its own "Alcohol Cloaking Initiative for DRM" (A.C.I.D) component.[4]

Basically, I want to make it a lot easier for me to play my old CD games by making copies using Alcohol 120%. I don't want to mess around with cracks and so on and for most 90's games, Alcohol 120% works just fine. I create the CD images on Windows 98 itself using Alcohol 120% 1.9.5. For some games, this doesn't work however and takes forever to do so I'd like to create images on my Windows 10 PC and even bought an Alcohol license but the images are not compatible with 1.9.5.

Does anyone have any idea if there's a version of Alcohol that works on Windows 10 that will create CD images that work on Windows 98? I don't need CD emulation support, just the ability to rip CD images.

I know, that's the one I'm using. The problem is it won't read images made with a recent Alcohol 120%. The Alcohol forums are no help and I can't find any info anywhere about what causes this incompatibility.

Depending on the game and how it "doesn't work", you could be running into copy protection issues and, depending on what kind of protection it is, will have to tweak alcohol to account for it using the dropdown at the bottom left of the copy window (actually got my copies of Warcraft 3 + FT, as well as SimCity 3k working via images). Supposedly A120% can scan the disk and figure out what kind of protection it uses, but I've been using something else for that so IDK where that option is.

I use Daemon-tools from the same link to mount in 98, though, so no idea if it creates images that your version of A120% can work with. You'd figure things like Bin/Cue or ISO or MDF/MDS would just work. Either way, this might be the route to go when mounting on Win98 if you're going to move the disk ripping to a different machine (plus you'd probably be able to use the A120% tied to that license you just got)

I have Daemon Tools (Ultimate key) but the Windows 98 version of Daemon Tools is pretty worthless in what it can emulate. Alcohol 120% is far more powerful - so far only Star Trek The Fallen hasn't worked which is why I'd like to try with a more recent version on Windows 10. Daemon Tools was never as good as Alcohol even though it was more common - I mostly used Daemon Tools for mounting images in combination with cracks but my intent is to make CD images that are so good the copy protection doesn't know the difference.
