I am currently using the first generation of the 4K Max released in 2021 and it does not handle TrueHD at all. Freezes constantly but plays fine when I change it to 5.1 sound. I don't want to buy one unless i know for sure.

I have a the second generation 4K Max (2023) and it will bitstream 7.1 TrueHD Atmos to my AVR. The Fire OS audio setting of "Best Available" doesn't seem to work, you need to set it to "Dolby Digital" and then it will do passthrough. It plays fine in Plex, Emby, and Kodi. DTS:X has issues in Plex and Emby but Kodi v20 or better has it working.

I'd also recommend quality USB 2.0 ethernet adapter. The fire sticks seem to struggle with even modest bitrate 4K video + high definition audio over a local network on WiFi. SMB read speed performance is particularly bad. I got a Cable Matters OTG adapter on Amazon for like $18. It has made for a very solid playback device after that.

I ask because for mine (2021), if I set my Fire Stick to Dolby Digital, it will play the TrueHD movies fine with the TrueHD sound selected. However, my sound bar reports that it's Dolby Digital sound and not Atmos. If I switch the Fire Stick to Dolby Digital Plus, it will freeze playing TrueHD sound, as well as when it's set to Best Available (which is the only option that says it supports Atmos).

TrueHD audio does not get passed through on the "Dolby Digital". The Firestick must be set to "Best Available."
TrueHD sound does work now with no picture freezing. So, that's a plus.
DTS audio stopped working. Picture does not freeze as it did with TrueHD, but have to switch to some other audio in Emby for any sound to be heard.

Once your tablet restarts, you should see the Play Store on your home screen. Tap it and you should be able to login with your Google credentials and begin downloading Android apps from the Play Store.

Among other things, it can simplify the process of installing the Play Store, attempt to block over-the-air updates, and attempt to disable some Amazon apps and services to make Fire OS work more like other versions of Android.

Liliputing's primary sources of revenue are advertising and affiliate links (if you click the "Shop" button at the top of the page and buy something on Amazon, for example, we'll get a small commission).

This might help. The first three worked but I got the parsing message on the last. It suddenly came to me to work my way down the list of apks. Bingo! The fourth one worked. Now a happy chappy with a fire 11 that has the Google play store on it

I spent way too much time trying to decide whether to buy this or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, but when I realized the Amazon tablet has a faster processor, cost $115 less with the trade-in of my Fire HD 10, and was something I could write about on Liliputing, it became a no-brainer ?

You can only load and watch what roku will allow you.Amazon and android devices allow you to download, install and watch anything you want. This is the biggest and most important difference and very awesome.

Thanks for all the hard work. Definitely the stick to buy going forward. Still, I guess if you want the most umph you would get the Cube 2 if you are willing to spend a good bit more. That said, you can often buy a refurb that in my experience is just as good for 75.00.

I believe if you go to the Amazon website you will find that they ARE offering TRADE-IN options on FTV devices. I noticed it yesterday when considering the 4K Max since I just brought the previous version 4K.

I run a FS Lite with a 128GB micro SD added, no ADB Shell app needed like a 4K, such a tedious pain, This new Max looks like it will be as easy to add rom as the FS Lite. A huge plus, I will get one and try it out.

Such as media players, that better allow you to watch movies from your own personal library. Apps that block ads in things like Youtube, etc.. If you have roms of games, you can play them on Android/FTV.

you also cannot load USTVGo or similar on your Roku, and for me, a world traveler, this is critical. I like my news channels, Showtime, Discovery, etc, that cannot be watched on a Google or Roku device.

Buy a micro usb otg apdater cable from amazon 7 dollars and a 128gb usb thumb drive plug it in to the firestick.now any apps you download,or anything you record will go on the thumb drive and not the FS internal storage.Problem solved, works great

Nope. In Kodi configuration in the some file (documented in their Wiki), you can change path to the data folder with SD card device address and path. You should copy the data and configuration to external SD card and point this path to that folder in the file as per instructions. Kodi just crashes after that, but if I change it back to its default, starts working. Note that this is not same as FTV2 saying move to SD card, which does not work for Kodi majority of data. (I had tried this in 17.x and even 18.x with same results)

External storage support is not something that Amazon officially documents or lists in specs, but trust me when I say that I have ways to know that it is supported and that the OS will allow you to move apps to external storage on the Fire TV Stick Max.

After looking at these specs again, the come off as a bit disappointing. After three years since the last version, for the most part all we got is a slight speed bump, have a gig of ram, and better wifi. And to make things worse, is the pricing. Tech usually comes down in price over time, and the four app buttons are likely giving Amazon revenue. So again, after 3 years, we got a minor spec bump and a more expensive device. Seems tech advancement has mostly plateaued for streaming devices in recent years.

The first Fire TV released in 2014 had 8 gb of storage. During that time cell phones had about the same. Today, the best Fire TV still stores a measly 8 gb while cell phones are at a minimum of 128 gb.

One small hiccup I see at the very beginning of all of this, I plug my memory stick in and the Firestick 4k Max prompts me that it needs to be formatted for the firestick can use it. But I already formatted it in my computer and then loaded everything on it.

The memory stick only runs on Firestick using FAT32, if it is in another format like NTFS it will suggest to format. NO you dont want to do this. Make sure to format using your computer first before you plug in the storage USB, a good size that will retain ROMS and stay FAT32 is a 128GB or 250GB SandiskUSB flashdrive. If the firestick continues to do this disconnect the power and reboot it hopefully that would fix the issue. You should start each ROM in retroarch using the Load Content then find the USB drive using the numbers.

Free Fire is a free-to-play battle royale game developed and published by Garena for Android and iOS.[4] It was released on 8 December 2017. It became the most downloaded mobile game globally in 2019 and has over 1 billion downloads on Google Play Store. In the first quarter of 2021 it was the highest grossing mobile game in the US.[5] In November 2019, it surpassed $1 billion in lifetime revenue.[6] As of 2021, Free Fire had surpassed 150 million daily active users.[7][8]

The game features two main game modes: Battle Royale and Clash Squad. In Battle Royale, 50 players are dropped onto an island and must fight to be the last one standing. Clash Squad is a team-based mode where two teams of 4 players fight each other in a best-of-5 match. Free Fire features a variety of weapons, items, and vehicles that players can use to survive. The game also has a system of playable characters with unique skills.[9][10]

In Free Fire, players control a character in a third-person perspective. The fire button allows them to shoot and throw items. The character can perform actions such as jumping, crawling, and lying down. During gameplay, players can utilize the "Gloo Wall" grenade as a form of cover to protect against damage.[14]

Free Fire offers over 15 game modes, including Team Deathmatch, Clash Squad, Big Head, Explosive Jump, Cold Steel, Zombie Hunt, Rampage, and Pet Mania.[15] However, modes other than Battle Royale, Clash Squad, and Lone Wolf are only available during special events.[16][17]

Clash Squad is a 4-player versus 4-player mode where players purchase weapons and items from an in-game shop during preparation time, then engage in combat against the opposing team. The mode is played in a best-of-7 format, lasting anywhere from 4 to 7 rounds. Each round is won when all players from one team are killed, either by their opponents or through environmental factors. As of 2022, the maps used in Clash Squad are the same as those in Battle Royale mode. The mode can be played as either Ranked or Casual.[20][21]

Lone Wolf is a variation of the Clash Squad mode that can be played as either a 1-player versus 1-player or 2-player versus 2-player "duo" format with more intricate rules. In each round, both sides have the opportunity to select their equipment for the next 2 rounds. The game is played in a best-of-5 format. If both teams have won 4 rounds each, a final round begins with both sides able to choose any weapon they prefer. All players are automatically equipped with basic items such as a vest and helmet from the start of the round. This mode takes place on its own map known as Iron Dome.[22][23]

Craftland allows players to design their own maps in Free Fire using an in-game builder tool. The maps created can be shared and played with others. Craftland also supports script editing for advanced customization, giving creators greater freedom to bring their ideas to life. Players can add buildings, gameplay elements, and decorations to the map until they reach the maximum space limit. There are two maps available for players to use as the base for their designs.[24][25]
