Hi Manuel,

You might try the pandoc listserve for this question, since it appears that the your difficulties arise in the output of pandoc, not the output of knitr.  I'm afraid I don't follow your question regarding sticking with .Rnw -> pdf.  Indeed I think that route will give you most control over formatting, etc, though it is not clear how that addresses your need to have docx / odt output in the end.  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pandoc-discuss

Cheers,

Hi
I've been using knitr for some time now and find it crantastic! I working on a report right now which I need to port to odt (docx would be an option as well...).
For now, I was using the standard myReport.Rnw -> myReport.tex -> myReport.pdf using knitr for processing the Rnw. I recently had to merge my report with reports written by others, in odt.

I tried to use pandoc to export to odt from the knitr generated tex file, but it kinda failed, especially regarding images inclusions.

Which processing chain would you recommend for finally producing odt document from knitr compatible documents? Should I stick to Rnw, should I move to Rmd, and convert knitr produced *.md documents to odt using pandoc?

Any help appreciated,    sincerely,              Manuel

Hi Manuel,
I don't know if this is off-list, but you could try pander (https://github.com/Rapporter/pander) which although not as strong as knitr in some ways, has many of the same features and offers excellent export to odt, html, pdf etc out of the box.
Cheers
Steve
