Slide (Page) number in markdown presentation doc

I am writing a R presentation using Rstudio and would like to include a page (slide) number at the bottom of each page except the title page.

Is this possible?

You are recommended to try rmarkdown (i.e. R Markdown v2), which
supports ioslides2012, and you will have page numbers, e.g.

The rmarkdown package is still under development, but it is actually
very usable now: http://rmarkdown.rstudio.com/
