Hello all,

Hoping that you're all doing well.
Please be informed that some members intimated that they need their money back which calls for the liquidation of the sacco.

I visited the bank last week & our account is dormant and below are the requirement:
1) Registered solution to reactivate.
2) annual returns
3) national ids for all the signatories.
4) trading license
5)  fill in the reactivation forms
6) all the signatories should be present.
However my opinion is we resolve to close the account

Greetings to you all,

I have personally received calls from members asking whether this entity could be closed and money given to the respective owners.

Brian, the last statement I looked at, had a significant amount of the money as profits, unfortunately, I do not remember the password for the online platform.

With COVID in the picture, we risk having the money eaten by some sharp guy in the bank or returned to BOU, which would be very unfortunate. Would rather donate it.

Julianne, I am willing to do all it takes to ensure the account gets closed by end of month, let me know how I can be of help.

Hello Julienne,

I do not think those requirements are really necessary, opening up that account we did not use them, unless am not aware.

To the best of my knowledge, banks make account closing almost impossible, I have personally just opted for withdrawing all the money without closing the account in the past.

As signatories, just storm the bank and ask for a solution.

You do not need to be in the same banking hall, everyone can be in a DFCU branch wherever they are, sign, scan and send documents through. I have done this before, with Equity.

Julianne, please share account details, and details of the person you consulted, I will go there too. I have come to learn information will always be varying depending on who you ask.

The challenge with waiting for consensus in setups such as these is that you will never get moving forward.

Some people, especially those who find the amount very small will choose to keep silent. A member I know, badly affected by COVD wants this done like yesterday.

In case anyone does not wish to have the account closed, should respond by saying so here, possibly by end of August, 2020

Thank you all for the workwell done. The fact that it has been dormant for long, we need to withdraw money silently and return it to the individuals, then those who are still interested can get reorganised and start afresh. Personally I would wish to have my money back because I need it badly. Let's make a conclusive decision.

Hi Innocent, 

Julianne talked about two things; a resolution and tax returns from URA.

What I know is that DFCU used to remove tax from the interest it was giving us, but rules that govern SACCOs keep changing.

Talking to a lady in URA she said we can not file returns without a TIN, and we can not apply for a tin now to pay for returns of the past, yet we have not even been making money.

She advised me to pass by one of their offices for further guidance. Julianne and I hope to have a solution this week.

And then come up with a resolution, hopefully everyone here will avail us their signature.

Dear all,

From my consultations from URA, the bank has nothing to do with URA. Returns are never the responsibility of the bank. Plus, a company can not file returns without a tin. If we have never had a tin, then we can not file returns.

My consultations from DFCU indicate all they need are the signatories to sign for the closure or reopening of the account. At least I have this on record.

I can pass by another DFCU branch tomorrow if any one is in doubt.

I would recommend closing the account from the branch where it was opened from.

Innocent, Ann, Julianne, Immaculate, please make time and pass by DFCU to close this account.

Thank you for the work and effort in ensuring this is closed. 

I guide as follows. 

1. Suggest a date and time. Confirm with the signatories via phone call and ensure they agree to the suggested date and time. They all shld be there to sign. 

2. Signatories withdraw the money and hand it over to Ann our treasurer to have the money distributed to members. 

3. Ensure members receive their money before 25th September 2020.

This is a very hard task for me. I will not be there. I imagine someone getting delayed, and I have to make multiple calls to keep the team coordinated.
