Hi All

The knative-sandbox GitHub Organization will be renamed to knative-extensions on the 1st of August. This change is important for the project’s journey to reaching the Graduated level at CNCF. The intention of the knative-sandbox organization was to hold all the extensions and plugins that didn’t form the core of the Serving, Eventing, or Functions. Many of these extensions/plugins are mature such as net-istio, eventing-rabbitmq, and others. Renaming the GitHub Organization allows the project to signal that this organization holds all the various extensions and plugins that are offered by Knative maintainers and other vendors at different maturity levels instead of everything in the GitHub organization being considered as sandbox/alpha code.

What does this mean for me?

  • GitHub will redirect the old links and Git operations against the old remotes will still work, but we recommend that you update them.

  • API Operations against the old repositories will work.

  • GitHub actions consumed from a repository in the knative-sandbox will need to be updated to reference the new repos.

  • The old GitHub organization will be left empty to preserve the redirects.

  • Knative contributors can expect some issues with the EasyCLA bot during the first 48 hours of the GitHub Org rename.

If you have any questions, please reach us on the knative-productivity channel in the CNCF Slack.

Hi All

This change has now been completed and knative-sandbox org has been renamed to knative-extensions. We will have an empty org in its place to ensure the redirects are still working and to block repos from being created in there.

Thanks

Mahamed

Thanks for the update Mahamed - and extra thanks for driving this!

Thank you!

The sandbox name has been confusing for the last few years, and I know the effort off moving to the extensions name was non-trivial.  Future users will thank you!
