Here's a link to my data:
http://www.uga.edu/marex/GoogleMaps/Testing2/index.html
When the webpage first opens, my country KML file registers properly
with the Google Map in the background. But the cities KML file does
not. The city points are all shifted to the north.
WHY ARE CITIES LIKE THIS AND WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO SO THAT THEY ARE
ALWAYS REGISTERED PROPERLY AGAINST THE BACKGROUND MAP NO MATTER WHAT
THE MAP SCALE?
Both of my KML files display properly in GoogleEarth. I could be
wrong but this tells me that the problem exists in GoogleMaps, not in
my data.
Pick your favorite city and zoom in. With each zoom click, the point
will be closer to where it should be. Until finally it will be there.
These two files (countries and cities) were both shapefiles from the
ESRIDATA dataset. They each had .prj files and their projection was
WGS84. I exported them both using the Layer to KML conversion tool in
ArcTools.
By the way, I have also done this with a line shapefile and with other
point and polygon files. The problem only exists with point KML
files. Line and poly files don't have the problem.
Thanks,
Doug
