I am trying to build an app that relies on an externally stored kml file. I placed a kml file in a dropbox public folder and created a link. When I paste the link into the google Maps Android app, I get the message ”This Community Map could not be displayed because it contains errors”. If I paste the link into the web google maps othing happens at all. But I know the kml is good because I can open it in google earth.

The link in question is: http://db.tt/EXgVbbvy

From research I did this should be possible. Am I missing something?

The thing is the link you are using returns a web page, not the file. To get the link that returns the file you have to right clic on the download button and copy the url.
You will get the link shown above, notice the domain (i think its a domain if it isnt just corrrect me plz) starts with dl, different to the one you are posting. That link would return the file and you can use it as a url for a kml layer
