hello,

i frequently used the kml extract ('show in google earth') on my maps.
when for a route the 'snap to roads' feature was active, previously
the exported kml contained

<Data name="_SnapToRoads">
<value>true</value>
</Data>

and then only the manually set points of the route in the linestring
element.
example :
http://maps.google.de/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=de&msa=0&msid=106262754475993237813.00047155440be028c0c11&t=h&z=12

containes one route with about 20 points, and active snap to roads.

since a few days (?) the kml still containes the <Data
name="_SnapToRoads"> but the linestring element now containe > 1500
coordinates (obviously anything needed to draw the track). No chance
to identify the manually set points.

i often used this export for the missing 'copy map' feature by
exporting and then importing into a new map, and also for letting my
pna assist me in driving this route.

is there any chance to get back only the manually set waypoints ?

known workaround : disable the snap to roads feature, and then export
the kml file. but that's nasty, esp. if the map has more than one
linestring.

thanks
guido

I agree this is a change, I've added Google for clarification. (ie is
it a bug or intentional)

However re your workaround - how do you disable the 'snap' feature for
a given polyline, I cant find any such option?

when creating a route in google maps, right click on the route while
editing (not on a manual set waypoint) you have the option to
activate / deactivate snap to roads (i don't know how exactly this is
called in english as i have a german browser, it's the 2nd option from
top)

Ah thank you! I totally missed that option. I sure looked in the right
click menu, but just missed it :(
