I'm new to KML.. just beginning to look into it. I am trying to figure
out a way to project a radio frequency coverage area over a point (a
tower) and have the propagation be affected by the surrounding
terrain. Does this sound reasonable?

I dont think it takes into account propagation, its simply line of
sight, but it might give you a useful idea.

Or if you mean you already have the data, you just want to present it
in Google Earth, then also see the above, the overlays it produces
could be used as a basis for plotting your own data.

That's extremely helpful, but not exactly what I'm looking for..

For instance, say I have a 120' tower, with an omnidirectional antenna
on top. I would like to visualize an estimated coverage area in a
color coded/signal strength type of map. I could place an overlay on
top of a point sure.. but that wouldn't take into account terrain
obstructions such as hills and mountains..etc. This is an example of
what I'm trying to do....

One thing you could do is use an overlay or Polygon and use an
altitudeMode of absolute. Then, with Terrain turned on, terrain would
poke through. However, I'm guessing that would not provide you with
the complexity necessary. I would think you would need knowledge of
the actual terrain to use in your model.

I am trying to do what this guy doing, only with different
frequencies..

Hi Gunrock31,

My reading of the site is that he pre-calculates the KML, he doesn't
rely on Google Earth to do it for him. Because KML can't do that.
