I’m trying to convert an ArcView (ESRI) shape file to KML, but lines
that are shown as one piece in ArcView get displayed as a series of
smaller line in GoogleMaps. Is there a way to keep the line in one
piece in GoogleMaps?

Thanks much!

You don't mention what conversion utility you are using. I have had
good results from shp2kml, which is a utility which is easy to find by
a google search.

So far I used the export function that came with ESRI Arcview 9.2, and
the GDAL /OGR conversion utility mentioned in the Google
documentation.

I did a quick search for shp2kml and tried to download from
zonums.com, but the actual download link doesn't seem to be working.
Any suggestions?

Thanks much..

Shape2Earth is a good one. Not free, but not too expensive.

Not sure if this is still valid but you can try our shp to kml converter at http://www.inquiron.com/online-file-converter/ - we don't require any downloads or plug-ins but do recommend you use Google Chrome or Safari as a browser for better performance.
