Hi, I am writing a KML export facility and need to be able to place
text on the screen much like a placemark name. However, I need a
facility to rotate it to any angle and if at all possible, set it to a
specific size so that it is not visible when zoomed too far out.

Can anyone help?

Hi Worlds6440,

You can't rotate text directly, but you can generate an image and
create a ScreenOverlay, GroundOverlay, or use it as a Placemark
Icon... depending on your needs.

Thanks Roman N,

Unfortuntely this is not good enough. I have written an export
facility for TopoGX. It will allow us to convert DXF topographical
surveys into KML for overlaying on google earth. This means that we
generally have at least a few hundred, if not thousands of texts.
Image overlays would be way too large and cumbersome to deal with.

It seems strange as Google earth can obviously deal with it. The road
names are rotated!
As for the text size, we can currently cope with this by using the
<Region> tag and removing the texts after a certain altitude.

Its all just a little frustrating, the goals in sight, but no bridge
to get to it!
Still looking for a better solution.

You should add the suggestion to allow KML to specify rotated text
here:

http://code.google.com/p/kml-samples/issues/list

(although I admit that since KML is now 'owned' by the OGC, dont know
if this it the best method?)

Thanks barryhunter [KML Guru].

I have now submitted the feature request.
It would still be nice to know if anyones got a resonable work around
for this problem?
