Problem with .dae file

Hi
I'm spanish, so at first sorry for my English.
I have a problem when I import a .dae file from 3dmax 2008 to Google
Earth. I drag and drop a dae file into Google Earth but in GE's screen
only appear a yellow box, but not my model. I've checked the collada's
code and have compared with other collada file which do work, and I
couldn't find the error. So if we could help me I would be grateful
for this.

Alonso,

Is this output directly from 3ds Max or have you made changes
manually? If it's directly coming from the application, then you may
want to contact Autodesk's support system.

I'd also recommend running the file through schema validation (see
http://www.collada.org/mediawiki/index.php/Schema_validation for more
details). This will tell you if the file is meeting the requirements
of the COLLADA format.

I ran your file through the validator locally (I named it test.dae)
and got the following errors:

test.dae:279: element accessor: Schemas validity error : Element
'{http://www.collada.org/2005/11/COLLADASchema}accessor', attribute
'source': '#Box02-mesh-map-channel1-binormals- array' is not a valid
value of the atomic type 'xs:anyURI'.

test.dae:303: element accessor: Schemas validity error : Element
'{http://www.collada.org/2005/11/COLLADASchema}accessor', attribute
'source': '#Box02-mesh-map-channel2-binormals- array' is not a valid
value of the atomic type 'xs:anyURI'.

test.dae:699: element accessor: Schemas validity error : Element
'{http://www.collada.org/2005/11/COLLADASchema}accessor', attribute

test.dae fails to validate

Note: the line numbers will be off due to the way Google Groups
formats posts. I'm not sure if fixing these errors will solve the
problem, but it should be a good a good start.

Nevermind, the file does validate... the validation errors were due to
Groups formatting.

Can you post a link (better not to paste huge files) to a similar
COLLADA file that IS working for you?

Is there any GE validator? Because I know that collada format have
some data that GE can't read for example polygons or polylist.

Alonso,

I haven't seen a COLLADA-for-Earth validator or such. However, the
list of limitations is available at our KML reference (http://
code.google.com/apis/kml/documentation/kmlreference.html#model):

Google Earth supports the COLLADA common profile, with the following
exceptions:
- Google Earth supports only triangles and lines as primitive types.
The maximum number of triangles allowed is 21845.
- Google Earth does not support animation or skinning.
- Google Earth does not support external geometry references.

I suspect 3ds Max may be outputting non-triangle-based meshes. Look
around the user manual to see if there are COLLADA export options that
will break down the mesh into triangles.
