Hi,

I'm trying to import a large kmz file (~17,000 point path) into google
maps and then overlay this with placemarks which i then hope to embed
in blogger.

I have tried the method described in the following thread
(http://groups.google.com/group/kml-support-getting-started/
browse_thread/thread/6fcf1df652fb6ef1/f55e673a7a3c1c7b)
i host the kmz on a googlegroup and save it in 'my maps' via the
search function.

however it seems that once saved in 'my maps' these 'external' kmz
files are not 'embeddable', and cannot be overlayed with other maps
(ie. placemarks). is this possible anyway?

I have read elsewhere that there is a 60 object or 1MB import limit to
google maps. however the kml file is only 902kb

does anyone have a solution?

Hmm, yes once you save it to MyMaps it doesnt seem to be embeddable :(

However before you save it you can embed it. (when the url is still
in the search box)

Once you save it to MyMaps you can however combine it with other
results.

Also embedded maps doesnt support more that one content mixed - you
need to create a KML 'container' file of network links for that.

There is a filesize limit, but its NOT fixed, I've been able to import
files with 200 features to a page, and also display them via a KML
file. Also I have tried a 2Mb file. I would like to know where this
fixed limit is quoted as I still beleive it wrong. I think the limit
is based on the size of the final object (JSON) as it transfered to
the client not the input file.

Also just noticed you mentioned hosting on "googlegroup" - I notice
the 'File' hosting is REALLY slow, in my experience. Maybe Google Maps
times out.

You might like to look at GooglePages instead - thats designed as
hosting.
