Is there a way to take a KLM file and convert into a usable format
that can be placed in an iMovie application?

Southpa,

If you're trying to record a movie of a GE tour (that is, record the
flying/balloon openings/etc) and incorporate it into a larger movie
using iMovie (or any movie making program, for that matter), you'll
need to purchase a copy of Google Earth Pro (or Enterprise). There is
a native movie recording option in those versions.
